Mass shootings? Perhaps.
Mass killings? No.

TV, movies, video-games, music.

None of these invented violence. People have been pointlessly killing each other since the beginning of our existence, no amount of regulation is going to change that.

If we eliminate every gun through magic: They'll use explosives
If we eliminate every chemical that can create explosives: They'll use knifes
If we eliminate every sharp object: They'll beat people with thick objects
If we eliminate every thick object: They'll bite and scratch
To be fair, producing explosives takes a lot more time and work than buying a gun, so is harder to do on the spur of the moment. And it would take a real ninja to kill more than a couple of people in a "knife killing spree". You can't just spray a crowd with knives like you can with bullets.
This is true. But even in countries where fire-arms are not generally legal and are tightly regulated, shooting still happen.

But the kind of person who wants to massacre a whole bunch of strangers is not the kind of person to worry about it requiring a little more effort.

There's really no simple solution here, I don't accept "tighter security" and "letting the TSA movie-crew search my balls and ass" just so I can watch a fucking movie. Gun control is a fucking joke and everyone should know that by now, it stops not even a single criminal from illegally arming themselves. Thank god some people still carry concealed weapons and make use of them when dipshits like this guy pay people a visit.

I will still always pick freedom over security, security literally is a LIE.

XDARC,

Yes the UK has the highest level of CCTV in the world, but we have virtually no gun deaths.
Just because you have low gun deaths, it doesn't mean your country doesn't have it's share of garbage and nonsense.

I've been there, and I'll stay here- in Detroit, Michigan of all places, and take my chances. I've had the opportunity to move to Europe from Detroit, you can keep it. It's rubbish.

Just because people do it does not mean that is how it is supposed to be done. Poor training aside a person familiar with their firearm should be able to tell when their mag is seated correctly. If they can?t then they need more training.
acctually, you're doing it incorrectly.

Speed reloading is an incorrect method of reload which is developed by specialists for unique conditions and enviornments. SpecOps use it with their full automatic weapons from cover as a form of deception of force. Rather then thinking that a 4 man SEAL team is out there with M4's you think that there is a Machine Gun Team out there that has you pinned because you can mantain a steady volume of fire.

Fact of the matter still remains that every weapon school out there will teach one thing first and foremost.

FOCUS ON THE RELOAD.

Doesn't matter how fast you reload if you get a double feed or a unaligned round.

It depends on the situation. If I am moving up the last thing I am going to waste my time on is recovering a magazine. That guy with the AK was a Spetsnaz soldier. Obviously it is taught.
Acctually no, it isn't.

Speed reloading is a competative thing, not a tactical thing.
Every time you see 'speed loading' you have guys doing it on the range, not out on patrol.

Even your 'spetsnaz' video tells you 'in a combat situation, you don't have the luxury of doing this.

the only real viable tactical usage this method has is if you're shooting at targets that don't shoot back. Such as the suppression method mentioned above.

Context and the situation at hand is important. If you are out in the open and you run out of ammo a speed reload is rather important.
If you're in the open, Your first action should be 'Get to Cover' if that isn't possible, the next action is 'Hit the Deck'. And considering you can't 'speed reload' from the deck i wouldn't think that it is rather high on the 'to do' list for a soldier.

Standing and shooting at your target in the open is exactly what you are NOT supposed to do.

Put the death penalty on it, and erase anyone who commits one from all records. Any idiot that does it to be a martyr or for attention won't get what he/she wants if we un-person 'em and then kick 'em off the mortal coil.

And no crap about therapy or counseling either. If you're deranged enough to start killing a load of people because of it, you're beyond hope.

Um, maybe screen people who are buying guns better? Maybe put more towards stopping the back alley gun sellers from giving crazies guns? Something to that extent? Basically do everything we can to not let a clearly unstable person have a gun.

While you may be able to reduce this type of murder (or any type really), you're never going to be able to eliminate it completely.

Not a fix-all solution, but there are things that can be done. Two things in my opinion would be most helpful.

Stricter gun control can work for *some* countries, not all. Often these shooters are not trained criminals, they're mentally ill, and generally not the kind of people who would/could buy a gun illegally.

Speaking of the mentally ill, better treatment of the mentally ill is a major step that needs to be taken in preventing these sorts of tragedies.

If someone commits a shooting, and is then killed and wiped from government records, are you seriously saying they won't become a martyr? Because if I know conspiracy theorist types, whenever the government tries to cover stuff up, they just think it proves them right.

With the colorado shooting, everyone is at it again with the blame game. The parents of the killer, video games, violent movies, guns, mental illness, and many other things are on the blame list. People target these things and then propose solutions. For example, stricter gun laws, more focuse on mental illness, or less violence in media.

But I want to see the opinion of the escapists. Is there a solution to mass shootings or is it something that will always happen?
There is no solution. If there were a solution, that would call for a fair and just world. And that is not what we have. These things happen. It's just a matter of moving on and not letting it scare you or going out of your door everyday thinking you may be shot or killed one way or another.

Make guns illegal. Your gun might make you safer, but everyone having guns makes it MUCH more unsafe for everyone. Same thing with nuclear weapons; one nation with them will keep that nation safe. If every country in the world had access to them we would all die very quickly. Guns simply kill people too well - it is their sole purpose. Sure a nutcase could go stabbing people, but he would certainly cause less damage and be stopped a lot easier than if he had a gun.
