The tag is trending on Twitter, and the Limitless DVD is being promoted through it. I mean... kinda in poor taste no?

Considering the redirector URL... no, because it does not look like a legitimate advertisement for the copywrite holder and mor elike an ad for a megavideo type of service.

So, yeah, No doesnt seem legit. Just a bunch of racists talking racist things.

I'm not sure what to make of this. It doesn't seem racist to me. Considering the other statements made using this tag (Please note I don't actually understand twitter so I may be talking shit) it does seem a little iffy though.

Not really, more just plain dumb. It almost borders on parody of the internet trend or meme it is attempting to use. Odd.

Here's the way you can tell. If feel like the question needs asking, then it doesn't matter either way because it's a ploy by fuckwit marketers to get attention by being as close as they think they can get without crossing the line.

I don't think the people who actually made Limitless are doing that. I think some troll decided they were going to try and get a director/movie studio in hot water.

In other news, I don't think it can be really called "racist" because most of this seems to be in jest. Sure, it's stupid and in poor taste, but I think most everyone using that tag isn't actually going to put on a white robe and burn a cross in some black person's yard.

There are trends like this all the time on Twitter. Dave Chappelle has practically built his career off that stuff.

Otherwise there's nothing to see here, it's obvious that the account is a bot that just tags its spam with whatever's trending.

Well heres the thing, it's a promoted tweet, and generally companies dish out money to twitter to put their tweets at the top of the search list so it's the most viewed thing, It's a little far for a troll to go no?

Doing it that way would be going a bit far, but account hacking could also get them there with a fraction of the effort.

Either that, or it went down like this. The studio hired an advertising firm to handle their advertising and promotions. The firm then delegates the different types of advertisements they want to different departments. Posters, commercials, web sites, social media, etc. Well, maybe whomever was in charge of social media was having a bad day. Or maybe somebody found the account open on a computer and thought they'd be cute. Or maybe it was just a really cheap, second-rate advertising firm with no quality control.

In any case, if this gets enough press, I can see some very embarrassing press conferences with the studio and director. It doesn't matter whose fault it is--it will always fall on the studio and the director.

It's Twitter, the crap I see trending on there everyday I'm not surprised.
