Poll: Is Torchlight a Diablo clone?

True. But I find the term "popular game X clone" to be derogatory, it just makes the "clone" seem devoid of it's own merits.

This is very true. "Game X is a clone of Game Y" is very a very loaded statement, that implies inferiority. Something that couldnt be farther from the truth with Torchlight, which stands brilliantly on its own, in spite of its blatant similarities to Diablo.

Yes, Torchlight is pretty much Diablo with some stuff added in. That's not a bad thing. There are way worse games to copycat.

It's not a clone, but it's so heavily inspired and influenced by it that it might as well not be. I personally like it better than Diablo. It refines everything that's so great about Diablo 2 into such pure digital crack.

It's almost good that the game doesn't have multiplayer. If it did, I might not play anything else.

Clone? Hell yes. Bad? Hell no! Diablo II is in my top 5 favorite games.

It's hard to be a clone when many of the dev team worked on the original Diablo and Diablo 2. Just saying.

Popcap's "Fate", which was another very Diabloey game, although it added things like a pet that could carry loot/ bring it back to town and sell it for you, fishing, and removing gems from sockets via a shopkeeper.

That's actually WildTangent/WildStudios.

I loved Fate. My first dungeon-crawler. And to be fair, while it is a Diablo clone, it was made in the effort to bring Diablo-like games to casual gamers, while still maintaining the feel of a deepish RPG like Diablo.

Fun fun. Still have the key for it, might get the sequels/expansions/whatever.

If Torchlight should be called a Dialo clone, then Call of Duty should be called a Doom clone.

If you say it like that, you could also argue that almost every FPS game after Doom was a clone.
