Worms is 2D destruction. 3D is acceptable, but it's not true Worms; Hogs of War is better for 3D, in my not-professional-at-all opinion.

I personally like Worms in 3-D, simply because each match feels really different, whereas with the 2-D titles, everything feels pretty much the same. Don't get me wrong, I love popping in Worms: Open Warfare 2 and having a blast, but when I come home to my consoles, I want 3-D. It's just a question of variety to me, and that means that 3-D will always win in my heart.
i did buy worms Party for my Phone month ago.. and its Awsome! while Worms 3D are just not fun. They lack appear that first worms had.
For me Worms will always be a 2D game, I played one or two of the 3D installments and it just felt odd.

Worms brings back memories, I use to remember playing with all my friends on the Megadrive (Genesis) back when.
We use to use the multiplayer option where you pass the controller to other person when its their turn ingame.
The amount of fights we got into because everyone would start holding down B as they passed the controller so your worm would bazooka its face was ridiculous. Ahh good times.

2D for me as well.
I liked some of the 3D Worms games, but they didn't feel like the 2D games, like Armageddon, which is still one of the greatest and most addictive games ever, in my opinion.

2D Worms is better than 3D. 3D graphics in 2D gameplay is still cool. For 3D Worms it's better to forget that, buy or dig out a PS1, and get Hogs of War.
Worms World Party was the best - 2D is/was infinitely better for worms, together there was a chemistry like no other. 3D on the other hand, well the less said the better...
