I'm asking this question because it seems to me that every single big budget multiplayer game on Live(mainly FPS since those are the most played, http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/09/30/live-activity-for-week-of-sept-20th.aspx released in the last year and a half seems to be hacked, glitchs being exploited and not patched and the games being generally annoying to play online and the developers do nothing about it. So escapist memebers I'm asking your opinion is it going downhill. Dont be a Troll
Any online gaming community is going to be filled to capacity with assholes, hackers, and griefers as....well...that's pretty much what humanity is comprised of. That said, Live has been going down-hill in my eyes. And it's not for the reasons you may think.
For starters, the party and messaging systems have been utter broken shit the past 8+ months. They bug out, crash, lock-up, and just simply fail at every turn. I can't count the number of times I've had parties crash when we exceeded more the three people. Likewise, I've had my inbox fuck up so many times I almost fear checking messages. There was literally a time when I supposed got game invites from every person on my friends list at the same time. Seeing as most weren't online at the time and many didn't have the games they invited me to, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that they actually didn't send an invite.
Now, I can put up with that most of the time, but it's the other things that have really been driving me mad. Let's start with the matchmaking. Unless you're playing one of the latest high-profile titles like Reach or Modern Warfare 2, the matchmaking is lack-luster at best. It takes far too long to fill lobbies, especially considering it's rare for Live to refresh the server que without direct user intervention.
Don't even get me started on the dashboard lag and occasion crash. (and no, it's not just my Xbox) Let alone, since the last system update, DLC packages fail frequently. I've heard too many times about people that, having booted their 360 offline, load a game only to find that their DLC is unavailable. The only way to remedy this is to login to Live and download an "update". Bullshit. It's not an update, it's the 360 having to re-validate your content. Something it should NOT have to do unless you're moved content or formatted a device. Here's an example:
I once loaded Halo Wars, in online mode, to play some skirmish games. No update or content patch. After a single match, I had to step away for about ten minutes. So I turned off the console. After returning, I turned it back on and started to load the game again. However, my friend had to (for some reason) muck around with the config settings on our router. So, I unplugged the 360's cat-5 cable and proceeded loading. To my chagrin, I found all of my DLC gone. I checked my storage devices. Oh shock of shocks, it was all there. Reloaded Halo Wars. DLC no where to be found. Eventually, I logged back into Live and after loading up the game for a fourth time, was immediately informed there was a "required update". As soon as this "update" finished, my DLC miraculously reappeared.
Frankly, I'm seriously starting to wonder what Microsoft does with all of the money we Live users pay for the service. It's obviously not for updating and maintaining the service.
