Poll: Is your first Final Fantasy your favorite?

Nope. Started out with VII, but my favourite is IX. (EDIT: Wow, seems to be a lot of this.)

After the steampunk-esque wastelands of VII and the weirdly sterile dentist's-office feel of VIII, IX felt like a breath of fresh air! I've recently downloaded it from PSN and started on yet another playthrough.

Like many others my first was VII but my favourite is X. I loved the world, I loved the characters, I loved the story and I loved the battle system. And the sense of accomplishment I got from doing all the Dark Aeons without using Yojimbo was amazing (though to this day I've never managed Penance, I've promised myself he's going down on the HD remake) Hell, even Blitzball was fun enough to be a game in it's own right. I'll take that over some of the card games they've included in the past any day (though Triple Triad was fun in VIII) Outside of MMOs I don't think there's any game I've devoted more time to than FFX

No, because my first was III for the DS. I have since played and enjoyed most of the main series (sans MMOs), and my favorites are X and VI.

Nope. I was there for the US release of Final Fantasy for the NES (sort of. I actually acquired the game for myself a couple years after release... but that was still before the SNES was out)... and the series made quite a few improvements in its subsequent releases before it started down the slippery slope of full-motion video cinematics.
...also, my favorite is 6.

OT: I don't have a favorite, simply because all of them are rather different. Although I will say that I enjoyed the pre-PS games the most.

I have! Only ones I don't own are XI and XIV. Not really an MMO person. I had various amounts of enjoyment from all of them, escept maybe XIII-2. That one kinda dissapointed me.

Well my first Final Fantasy was VII. And while that game was great in it's own right, I can't say it's my favorite.

No, that honor goes to the second Final Fantasy game I've played. Final Fantasy IX. One of the best games I have ever played. I'm thinking of starting a new playthrough sometime this summer.

This, however I couldn't get pass the third disc due it being scratched, then I lented it to an acquaintance who decided it would make a great coffee coaster and is now scratched to hell. Might use some emulators to start another playthrough again, loving what the pirates say about emulators, "It's only legal if you own a PS1 and there's not chance of that, herp derp" Guess who does? Anyways, I moved onto VI which is my favourite, as you can tell. Great casts of characters and a great story about stopping a crazy clown who wants to blow the whole up because he's bored

I'd test out the theory that the first 3D game of a major franchise is always considered to be the best because of the "WOW" factor it had (excluding Prince of Persia 3D, of course ).

final fantasy 6 was my first but i never finished it so maybe it doesnt count. the first one i finished was final fantasy 7, followed by final fantasy 10. i loved final fantasy 7 but i honestly think i liked 10 better. final fantasy 12 was by far the worst though. i also really liked 13 (i know, blasphemy). it was linear and didnt feel much like a final fantasy game, but i found it to be a really fun jrpg

FF12 was my first. Played 10, 7, 9, 6, and 13 afterwards and none were nearly as long or fun as FF12 IMO

Plus it has the unique distinction of being one of the only games in the series that I've actually enjoyed the Blue Mage character. Strago is the shit and Quistis, Quina and Kimarhi can go suck eggs.

Considering what s/he is, Quina probably would love to suck eggs.

My first was FFVIII. I love the hell out of that game but my two favorites are ffIV and ffIX.

Yes, definitely, though I've only played 2, FF4 and FF13, and really I didn't get very far in 13 because the auto option just killed the game

I only played a handful, but yeah, VI is my jam. Chrono Trigger was better than all of them, though.

I played Final Fantasy IX first, and that is still my favourite. I don't know if that is completely because it was my first, but I think it does contribute a fair bit.

VIII was my first but FF III / VI for the SNES is the only one I could actually play for an extended period of time.

Stupid clothes and hairstyles is a lot more tolerable and hard to notice in pixel graphics. Also: no stupid voice acting.

It did have crazy repetitive combat, which every single FF game I've tried had so I guess that doesn't matter when it comes to favorite FF game.

Yes for me, my first was XI and it has been the most engaging game I have played. I am playing through 2 right now, but have also beat 1,6,7,8,9,12 and 13.

well the first one i tried was ffX which i loved but havn't tried any others i do have XIII but have not yet got into it's been sitting next to my ps3 for more then a year

I started with FF1, and I have played and finished every game in the series. I say FFX is the best, with FF6 a close second.

Yes, yes it was. FFVIII for me. I was unfamiliar with FF games when I first got my hands on that game. I played it for a while and named it "Pokemon for grown-ups" (I also wasn't familiar with terms like RPGs and stuff). Soon, I came to like it and I fell in love with the story, graphics, music, characters and everything else. So once I finished it, I proceeded to play other FFs available at the time. Some I like better than others.

I like FF in this order:

VIII
IX
X
XII
X-2
VII

I haven't finished XIII or XIII-2, I never played the MMO ones, I'm still in the process of playing I through VI, although I'm not liking them a lot so far.

And yeah, I don't get why FFVIII is kinda underrated as compared to other FFs. To quote a conversation, I had with a friend of mine:

Me: I love FFVIII.
Friend: I don't. It was complicated.
Me: I thought it was easy. I was 14 at the time and I got every single thing done in that game.
Friend: Was that your first FF game ever?
Me: Yes.
Friend: That's why.

PS: It seems most people like IX a lot so...why don't we get a remake of that?! Or a prequel?! Or even a sequel?! It seems only ONE game gets all the attention nowadays. *Cough*
