FF 7 was my first ever FF game that I played. Played it through with my father when I was 4 - 5 and I can't remember much but that Sepiroth is a jerk and that grinding was tedious, but god do I remember that music.

My favorite is pretty much all of them, since their all special in their own way.

If you want to know my favorite then I guess I'll have to call the series of Tactics games. The ones on the DS rein over the others as my favorite, while never beating them all the way, their just more enjoyable then the rest.

I'd love to give it another go, but for whatever reason my PS2 cannot save PS1 games. Probably broken...
Get a PS1 memory card and it will. I know, fucked up...

OP: Can I say maybe? My first was VII and I love it, but I also loved IX and X. I don't know, too hard...

First was FF1
Favorite was FF8

That being said, the people I do know who like the first they played, usually favor 7 the best

Oh God... For me the answer is probably yes. VII was my first (and you always remember your first) and that's the one that's stuck with me through all the years. It's probably a combination of characters, story, music and that feeling of opening my eyes to what an RPG could be and look like (I'd been Dungeon Master / Ultima gal on my Amiga till then). Course, once I'd played and beaten that, I went and found as much back catalogue and similar games as I could, and discovered things like the Mana series, so I owe a lot to my beloved VII.

However, there's a few that have given VII a real run for it's money. VI is very close behind, on account of being splendiferously awesome in every respect. Who gives a monkeys if it's sprites and midis? It's still splendiferous. And as other people have mentioned, IX was also a fantastic game.

I'm a little bit in love with XII as well, so much so I even dressed as Fran to the last MCM Expo. I know it gets a fair share of hate, but there's just something about it that makes me a happy bunny. As it were. See what I did there?

I don't truly dislike any of them, and I've played them all. Certainly some are better than others. Some have... let's call them 'experiemnts in direction' that didn't work as well as perhaps Square hoped. And yes, I'm looking at you here, XIII. But I'm one of those weird people who always tries to find the good in them, so...

I think my first was VII, but I was never a huge fan of it so my favourite will always remain as IX closely followed by XII.

Edit: Tits. Totally ninja'd above ^

My first was X, then X-2, then VIII, then VII, then I and II, then XIII and XIII-2.

XIII is definitely my favorite though.

That's pretty close to my experience. FF7 was my first (being the first in the UK, though my first Square RPG was Secret of Mana, and that definitely is still my favourite) and at the time I thought it the best game I'd ever played and would defend it to the death. Since then I played a lot of the earlier games in the series through emulators (though I bought them as soon as they were ported, honest!), and the one that sticks in my head is FF6. Now that I'm all grown up and not really into Japanime so much, I still have a lot of respect for FF6. There's something really special about that game. It's not any more advanced than FF5 in its graphics or gameplay, but somehow the developers squeezed more game out of the same system. Of all the FF games, it's FF6 that I'd point to and say "this is an example of good game design".

FFT happens to be my favourite, actually, if you accept that as a FF game. Otherwise, I'd say FF6.

The later games? No.

I played ff7 a while back and it was pretty cool but I cannot remember anything that happened in it. Later a friend told me ff8 was like his favorite game so I played it last year and my mind was blown. The story was so good compared to games from today. Its probably just me and a minority because rubs me the right way. Like how Squall can be a typical loner douche but then when has his monologs you find that he's got motives like a real person.

And then the "Squall is dead" theory blew my mind again, along with all the other hidden symbolism hidden in the game that goes with its ever present themes like mortality and time and relationships that adds more meaning to the whole game.

Basically, I like ff8 because you can learn from after playing and reflecting on it. Not a lot of games or movies do that anymore. Its why I made faceless Squall my avatar.

My first Final Fantasy was just that. Final Fantasy on NES. My FF gaming order is as follows:

1 - FF 6
2 - FF 4
3 - FF 12
4 - FF
5 - FF 13
6 - FF 7
7 - FF 10

I didn't much care for the rest and have never played FF8, 9, and 13-2.

No. The first I played was XII, which was alright, but it couldn't match even the flawed FFXIII. It was a decent game, but it got tiring to play thanks to an average story and an overpowered gambit system (later on in the game).

Yep. Like you, OP, my first and favorite Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy X. However, Final Fantasy IX comes REALLY close and I only played that one for the first time a few months ago (played X when it was released).

So, what was your first Final Fantasy, and is it your favorite?
No, although it was close.

My first FF was FF8.

Not my first Square RPG mind - I played Xenogears and Parasite Eve first (and loved both).

FF8 was... okay.

Then I played FF7. It remains my favorite.

FF 10 is in my top 3 FF games as well, just FYI. Playing FF 10 first doesn't make it your favorite - FF 10 being a damn good game is what does that.

My first FF was VI but the first one I played to completion and is still easily my favourite is VII. Later I went back to VI and loved it (dont know why I got bored on the first playthrough and ditched it) and its now my second favourite along with X then IV then the rest then II which was a piece of garbage.
