About 3 hours ago, my brother said to me "you're a lightweight!" after I'd ingested about 5 units of alcohol and wanted to stop, and made it out to be a bad thing, which pissed me off, so I came here and seeked the opinions of internet peoples.

This of course means I'm still a bit drunk when I write this. Nonetheless, I want a super serious discussion.

It's only ad if you try to drink like your not and make an arse of yourself, no one like someone who is exceptionally more drunk than they are.

Just slow down your drinks and save some money.

If you're drinking with the intention of getting drunk then being a lightweight is a good thing, because you get drunk faster and cheaper. But why on earth would you do that?

If you're drinking because you enjoy alcoholic drinks then being a lightweight is a bad thing, because you can have less of what you enjoy.

I'm in it for the flavour of delicious single malt whisky, and fortunately I have a tolerance to match. Even so I make an effort to avoid getting drunk, so tend to have a lot of water in parallel with any alcohol.

Well I've never called someone a lightweight because of drinking. I call people lightweights when they get stomach aches from one ibuprofen, because that's straight up embarrassing. So I'd say it's only bad if you're really really a lightweight.

I don't really care for getting drunk as quickly as possible so being a light weight wouldn't help me. Luckily I'm pretty okay with drink.

Depends. Usually I drink with friends to get both buzzed, to enjoy the test and as a general social gathering over a sporting event or something. If you do drink and throw up after your second pint then yeah it's kind of a problem. If you stick to Coca-cola then it doesn't matter.

Point being that heroine isn't hardcore. It's just naivety, it's not even the most hard core of the stupid drugs. Meth and krocodile are much worse.

Therefore the person who is accusing me of being a "lightweight" will be killed by an amount that would not effect me*, whereas I can drink what they take and be very drunk, but still alive. Who is the lightweight now? You're dead.

You just told me the absinthe would kill you. I'd say that makes us kinda even.

I'm guessing it would, I don't really drink, I just assumed 70cl of alcohol would kill virtually anyone.

Anyway, perhaps you have missed my subtle point, it's not really about being even or being able to consume more of X than someone else, any idiot can spend time building up a tolerance to dangerous intoxicants, all it takes is time and disregard for your health. This idiot has spent his time building up a resistance to opiates, other idiots have spent their time building up a resistance to alcohol. Calling someone a "lightweight" because they have not built up a certain resistance to a particular poison is the hallmark of an utter twat, it is not really a "skill" worth having and someone who considers themselves to be a heavyweight ( I guess that's the opposite) can be proved to be anything but when it comes to other substances.

Also, if you want argue the point, I bet the bottle of absinthe would get you a lot more wasted than the 1/2 gram would get me

I'm 215 pounds and am fairly lightweight when it comes to drinking. That's why I prefer to do my drinking at home with the girlfriend who won't judge me. If I am out at a bar with friends though, I usually don't drink but one or two beers as I volunteer to drink so that I don't have to get completely shit faced way before everyone else.

I have a pretty high tolerance to marijuana though so there's that

It's bad because the goal ISN'T actually to just go and get shit faced. Even when you're out to get drunk until you're wasted that isn't the actual goal. The actual goal is to be the manliest one doing it, as in drink the most.

And in normal circumstances the goal isn't to get trashed at all, but rather to spend several hours drinking and laughing with friends at the pub.

In either case being a lightweight isn't a good thing. If you just want to save money don't drink at all. If you just want to mess yourself up... well I am sure there are cheaper substances to do that with too.

And calling someone a lightweight with alcohol is nothing more than banter amongst friends. I doubt very many people would actually judge a person for dropping on the floor 1 beer before anyone else. All social structures have their little frivolities that inevitably descend into competition.
