Poll: Italian and Irish Flag Confusion

Has anybody (who isn't color blind) ever confused the Italian Flag with the Irish one, or vice versa? The only difference is that the Italian one has red on its right side, and the Irish orange. The most common time that I confuse them is when I view another Escapist's profile, because they are very small.

EDIT: Also, I just wanted to clarify that I don't confuse the two when looking at them fairly close-up, only when very far away, the image is very small, or when in a room with awkward lighting.

I don't but I can see how easy it is the only real difference is a different colour which is really close on the spectrum already

Italy:

Ireland:

To me, the Irish flag looks like a washed out version of the Italian flag. Depending on the light and shades of colors used, I can definitely see mix-ups being made. I have never personally made the mistake, but then again I've never really been in a situation in which I've had to identify either country only by their flags.

I don't.
I remember the Italian flag like this -
Red is Germany in the east, Green is France in the west, White is Italy.
Though I'm not sure how I managed to rememebr that.

Nah, never. But I am Irish, so I'm pretty used to it.

Funnily enough, that is the general sort of idea behind the Irish flag.
Green for the south, orange for the north, and the white meaning peace between the two.

Well, that was the idea anyway...

I'd say that the Italian flag and the Newfoundland flag would be a bit more confusing, with the Newfoundland flag literally being a washed out version of the Italian flag (pink instead of red.)

I can take the symbolism in these sorts of flags, but I can't help but think that more meaning or interesting visual design could be put into them. The coloured bars trope tends to get a bit samey.

I agree with you, there. If I remember correctly, Ethiopia's flag has a lot of symbolism behind it, and Mexico is very interesting with their whole condor eating a snake on a cactus thing. Those country's flags are founded in symbolism and unique legends, not some boring, linear, color coded bars.

The Ivory coast flag ever so slightly takes the piss with my eyes when it comes to the Irish flag, being an Irish man

I always remember Irish = orange and Italy = red.

Now Ivory Coast and Ireland are easily confused... but Ivory Coast isn't quite as big a name as Ireland.

no, but then again I'm paritially both, so to confuse either in the wrong household would either lead to me getting a bottle thrown at my head or a cutting board.

Plus i dont make the mistake between colours that are visibly different. Only if the hsades are closer, but most times is ee the flags, its either red red like the crayon or orange orange like the crayon.

I live in the U.K. so I know what the Irish flag looks like, plus I've bought enough pasta sauce in my time to know what the Italian flag looks like since it's pasted onto pretty much every jar.

So, no, I don't confuse them.

Although, the Chilean flag and the Texas flag are pretty damn similar.

I've made that mistake before. It's easy to do especially in certain lights or if the flag is worn down.

I can't say I have but I'm Irish so it'd be kind of embarrassing if I did.

Having said that though, sometimes I have to take a second glance when it comes to the flags on user profiles.

Hell, I am colour-blind and I've never confused them (orange & red not being a problem for me).

However:

Only when the colour quality is poor and they look exactly the same.
I do have an issue with all of the red, white and blue horizontal striped flags.
