On november 2nd 1978 an american religious group call The Peoples Temple commited mass suiside. Their leader Jim Jones forced 909 people to drink cyanide. Babies were forced to drink the cyanide and an american group of reporters from NBC were gunned down for trying to escape with many of the groups followers who wanted to leave including american congressman Leo Ryan who accompanied the reporters.

People did believe that Jim Jones was the second coming of christ and he had a following of thousands across the USA. But there were also stories of abuse and captivity in Jonestown, a shanty town created by the religous leader in guyana in south america. Jim jones told his followers that in order for the group to remain safe from the "Evil" US goverment they must pass on to the next life.

The reporters were obviously murdered but what about the followers with the cyanide? did the religious leader murder them? Did they drink because they were scared that if they did not they would be beaten or killed? or did they genrally believe it was a good idea?
