Haha, well I know I'm gonna sound like and old geezer with this one (although I'm only 18) but am I the only who thinks kids get too much delivered on silver platter to them. I'll start with games. By the time I was in late elementary school, I had to buy my own things--videogames/whatever. The money I got from my parents was (except on a few occasions where dad slipped me some $$) was for actually doing stuff--i.e. mowing the lawns with a pushmower and doing various yard tasks and house-cleaning--not some bogus allowance that I keep hearing about...and I felt sort of privileged to actually have an income.

Nowadays I see kids getting blackberries and PS3s for the holidays, or just because they came out...and why does the kid need a blackberry anyway!? I got along fine without a cell-phones until middle school. The fact that kids have all this stuff is further reaffirmed when I log on to PSN (at a friends house) or my live and realize--with horror--that have the kids are little prepubescent snots with headsets and nothing to say.

Now, I know not all kids are like that, but it seems like a pretty hefty majority, even though kids can't be employed legally (other than by parents). Should kids (10-15) have to work for their games/systems?

I generally do work for it. I get my allowance every month, but if I don't keep up with my chores, i'm not getting any cash. Occasionally, i'll get a gift from my parents (like my PS3).

Brother, I agree completely. I'm a member of Xbox Live, and it doesn't matter what game I get into, or what time it is, the room always has at least two mindless, nose-picking children, chatting it up, getting shot at, and using language that I myself today won't use, and I've convinced a pacifist to attack me. For Gods sake, parent's, we, the gaming population don't ask for much. Just please, keep your vile spawn off of our wavelengths

Of course they should have to work for them... I bought my 360 with money I earned doing temp work over the summer, and everything that I have sunk into it was my own money as well.

That said, I still don't understand Facebook or much of the behavior that seems to define my generation and younger ones.

I don't get money anyway, because my parents don't own a money tree.

I rarely get things paid for me by my parents (most of the expensive items I've got are either Xmas/Birthday presents I've had to wait and negotiate for or have come out of money in my own pocket), as a result I've had to adopt the philosophy of 'if I can't get what I want or need then I'll have to make do without'.

Some kids do get more than they deserve but this is perfectly fine if they are in a position where they can realistically have that, if it's a case of the chavvy kids with a leaky roof and no bed who own a 32" screen plasma TV and a PS3 then we have a problem.

If a kid can work for their own goods then that's great, good for them. If a kid can persuade a parent/other person to hand over shiney things then that's also great, I guess they get what they want and learn how to deal with others.

I would only ever get gaming presents for Christmas...my birthday is on the 29th of December so I had very few games...but yeah I got money for Christmas and birthday and Easter and would save up for games I really wanted. I think the only time I didnt have games as a present was when I wanted a skateboard...and another time a bmx to help me with my paper round.

I now have a job finally and hopefully I'll be able to buy all the nice things i always wanted.

Ya, it IS pretty unfair, I worked for [the majority] of my games, and then, when I play Halo 3 or Left 4 Dead, hell, sometimes Gears Of War 2, I get these little shits running around swearing WA~Y to much, betraying WA~Y to much, and not shuting up. I mean, at least play games that were MEANT for you, right?

I do plan on it! The only thing that brought it up in my mind was a the poll about MW 2 being one of the most popular games among tweens.

I generaly get a game or two for my birthday/christmas but I earn my keep I have a job and at home I do laundry dishes sweeping and pushmower (scared of electric mowers dont as why =/) so I deserve what I earn an honestly I have to spend less on games since I am planning on getting a car and I pay for my own phone bill though my mom payed for the phone but I have noticed kids younger than me (too young to have a job) having much more expensive stuff than me but I think its because parents want to be "good" parents so they spoil them but my parents were good because they didnt oh well going to suck for those kids in the future when you become an adult things arent just handed to you

Nah, it's much easier for parents to use one violent game as a scapegoat for a good old public stoning, while kids play far worse games in terms of content. Double standards are great, and as long as people want to label bad parenting as "negative" culture, they'll continue to exist in gaming.

When I was a kid we only had one life and games were so hard they made us cry! Now kids get this 'tutorial' jazz along with all these 'uber' weapons. Kids these days know nothing bout vidja games, they need to respect the games that started it all.

My mother never buys me games anymore since my dad left, she thinks all games are for children and make me dumb and demonized (exact words), so I need to buy them myself. I can't comprehend a parent giving free money to their kid, what the hell? This guy who lives on my block has a shitload of games from his mom and he never takes care of them! I'm serious he rips the cover art, scratches the discs, smashes his controllers, ugh wheres the justice.

Yeah...I used to think my Mom was being a hard-ass, but honestly, I'm glad she didn't let me become a spoiled brat.

Well they do sometimes just depends on the parents I know a kid who had to pay for his own food when his family took him out. I have gotten things handed to me before but that's why I just applied for a job.

I have to buy all my own games.

I even had to pay half of the cost for my Xbox, even though it was for Christmas.
But hey, it helped me learn about the value of money, unlike my sister, who spends every last penny on tat.
