Being a fan of Green Day, I have to say I was somewhat disapointed with the release of the new hit single, "Know Your Enemy." I just wanted to see what my fellow escapists thought of it.

Yanno polls usually have more than one choice otherwise it's not really a poll.
I like Green Day but don't have their new album.

Eh, the new album reminds me too much of American Idiot, which I honestly wasn't too impressed by. But it's decent enough.

You should have an option that goes like this:
"It's a very typical Green Day song."

Sorry, I accidentally posted it while I was still writing it out. The poll has more than one choice now.
How could have you possibly already have replied to it, it was like that for a couple minutes.

Not a fan, never was (even though I grew up in the 90's), so I went with despise, because it doesn't really sound much different from their previous efforts.

Its cool. Not a patch on Old green day, Circa warning I mean. But meh its catchy. They'll overplay it like they did with American Idiot and everyone will eventually learn to hate it... Shame..

Oh dear me I haven't heard such a bad song all year.
Not being a big fan anyway but liking about 2-4 of the songs, I expected something I would perhaps like a bit from this but no no no no no no no.
Not at all.

It just was when I posted, this forum works in mysterious ways. Anyways no worries.

Green Day has always been horrible imo. I don't like their songs, I don't like their look, and I don't like the fact the Rolling Stone magazine idolizes them. That's just me though.

21st Century Breakdown was leaked onto warez a couple of days ago. Gave it a listen and it still has that American Idiot sound, except this time we don't have the pleasure of the songs not all sounding the same.

Dookie was good. Their earlier stuff was good. But their later stuff (read: American Idiot) wasn't good. This song falls into the latter category. It has a very generic drum opening, and has about two lines worth of lyrics. It's also played way too much for it's quality level.

It's just the same rough sound being repeated over and over again until it burrows itself in your brain like a carnivorous earwig (cookies for the reference).

Guide to buying the greenday album:
Order online at amazon.com
When package is recieved open the parcel and take the CD out.
Then snap the cd in two.
After that Slit your wrists with the broken shards of terrible taste you just bought.
take the remains and put them in a bowl with milk and eat the CD shards.
then realise that was alot more satasfying then wasting hours of terrible music.

Also, Green Day was great for me when I was growing up and just getting into music, because it was simple, catchy and decent paced. But I think as you get older, the 3 chord progression really kinda gets old. You seek for music with a little more depth and structure, especially coming from a guitarist point of view.

My reaction to Green Day as a part-time music critic and human being with functioning ears has largely been "Meh." There was a time--and I remember it because I'm old enough--their music actually had some meaning behind it. But like everything else that was good in the 90s, it's been commercialized and sanitized and manufactured. American Idiot, while harping about US politics and consumerism, was nevertheless mass-produced for the waiting American public. Smacks of hypocrisy to me. I could go on about over-simplified lyrics and melodies that just rehash the same territory over and over, but several posters already made that point. I'll finish by saying the Green Day single was exactly what I expected: trite, over-produced, and meaningless.

Green Day has been shit since the mid 90's. They are from my hometown and I remember how good they were back in the day when I was younger.
