Excellent, except the AI survivors seem thicker and the old characters were a thousand times better. I would have preferred them to carry on with Bill, Louis, Francis and Zoey instead, and just had them go to the South.

L4D2 is out?
In the US, it was released today. in Europe (or at least Britain) it comes out this friday, and I couldn't be more excited.
I live in England and I got it today via Steam, I pre-bought it Sunday and it became available today.

Although strangely Steam also told me today it would be available on the 20th (when it's out on Amazon and such) I'm not sure if pre-buying it on Steam means you get it early or whatnot, but on the Steam Store it did say L4D2 had a worldwide release today.

Honest opinions.

- Well the new characters don't work as well as the old ones, the banter in game is not as good.
- The melee weapons are utterly pointless, they are the work of focus group and zombie filmfans wet dream fantasy come true and the result is something that is totally redundant within the game itself.
- The running alarms are total wank as well, in the real world you could us your body weight to push through the zombie hordes but in this game you get so much as brushed by a single zombie and you get brought to to a complete halt. It's that reason that makes the melee weapons useless.
- The weapons mix is, well pointless as well, I don't need five different types of machinegun, the single weapon and two tiers worked very nicely and as a general point their seems to be far to many weapons in the game, most of which are variants of the same gun, why an ak47 and an m16? why a desert eagle when a shot gun has the same result? Oh yeah it gives a nice choice to the player but L4D had the option of shotgun, sniper or machine gun and it worked I get to a weapons stash now and I have an m16 do I take the ak47 or do I leave it, I dunno.
- The new infected seem interesting apart from the charger which seems to suffer from serious hit detection issues, as do the melee weapons. You think you've got a chance to dodge it but it turns out it's just jumped the last few metres and pinned you down.
- The game just seems so meh! When I got the first game a few months ago I loved it, played it for hours at a time and couldn't get enough of it, this one I can't even find the will to get through an entire campaign.

Only played through the first two campaigns so far, but I'm loving it. The gameplay feels a little samey, but it makes up for it with buckets of polish dumped over it. The weapons feel more powerful, the new maps are much more interesting and creative, and the new special infected are fun to fight against (and hopefully will be fun to fight as in versus).

Also, the Dark Carnival finale where:
You defend a concert stage using guitars and fireworks and to attract a helicopter with a huge lightshow, all while prerecorded metal tracks play through the speakers
was freaking awesome.
