so i have decided to buy a new game, and i'm not sure which of these two i want to get. i have played fallout 3, and loved it, but i also like detective and sandbox games. it seems that both of these games look equally good, so what do you think is the one i should get. so what will it be, post WW2 1940's or post-apocalyptic future.

EDIT: i'm playing these games on the ps3 BTW, my computer cannot handle games.

I don't know about you guys, but I found L.A. Noire to be extremely boring. I appreciate what they tried to do, but the key word here is 'tried'. There's not much to do in that game besides the main story. It feels like there should be more to it. A lot more. But there isn't. It's a pretty empty game that doesn't allow you to have any fun outside of the main story. That's not how you make a free roaming game. Free roaming games are supposed to offer freedom. And the ending is shit as well.

Get New Vegas man. Especially if you're on PC. In which case you shouldn't even consider L.A. Noire because it's a lousy port with a 30 fps lock (and that's if you're lucky).

LA Noire's story also kind of goes off the rails in the final third of the game. I won't spoil it, but it's a definite letdown. Get New Vegas instead. I've played through it four times, and I'm still finding stuff I didn't know about.

I got L.A. Noire last week at EB and I am having a blast.

New Vegas is probably better in the long run, but right now I am loving L.A.

If you loved DC, you're going to love Vegas.

I've been to LA and Vegas twice. In real life. Let's just say LA is cleaner in more ways than one.

Well you should get both at some point but with LA Noire don't expect much of a game, because the game parts are the weakest shit of it all.

You'll get more for your money with New Vegas. If you even vaguely enjoyed yourself with Fallout 3, there's no question you should get NV here.

Well, considering that you loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas is basically Fallout 3: Good Edition...

I have spent over 200 hours in the Mohave desert and still sometimes I go back for more. I have spent 50 hours on my pc edition and let me tell you that is nothing compared to when I played it on my ps3. I spent countless hours days and nights in that barren wasteland and it is still fun to go back for more. Now it is a choice between that and a gmae you would probably only play once.
I think you know the right choice. Hopefully you will be takin' a trip to Vegas like Mr. Dunne

I have no experience with LA Noire so my answer by default is New Vegas. You'll want the complete edition of course, since it has all of the DLC etc. New Vegas is open but starting out you do need to go on a set path or risk quick, horrible death. Once you hit a certain point in the game though (and hit a certain level) you'll be able to blow through those stronger enemies.

Fallout New Vegas brought me probably over 100 hours of fun, though also a lot of lag and freeze frames that forced me to turn the console off every few hours. Haven't played LA Noire yet(should be in my mailbox tomorrow actually!), but from what I've heard it's a game that's only good in small doses.

I also play on the PS3 btw, so you can probably expect to get that horrible lag as well. :/

i voted for new Vegas but i should qualify that i never played Noire, and while i did like Vegas i didn't like it as much as fallout 3.

I personally found Noire to be quite the drag. And the characters were ugly as hell!

You can lose yourself in New Vegas for hundreds of hours, plus mod support if you're on PC.

EDIT: Just read your edit. Missing out on NV mods sucks, but the vanilla version has been patched to hell and back it should run without too much hassle on ps3.
