Poll: Languages in games

SUBS NOT DUBS. SUBS NOT DUBS!!! This goes for all games and videos since the voice actors from the originating country will perform - in my opinion - a lot more in coordination to the text most of the time. Dubs in English for some (most) Japanese animes will sound unenthusiastic or just plain lame and stupid by trying to avoid sounding embarrassing.

It's bloody difficult to find talented voice actors that speak a minority language though O,O

Depends on the game.

E.g. Original Call of Duty, the Russians speak English, in a very Russian accent. I thought it was hilarious. If they delivered the dialogue in Russian 1) You may not fully understand and 2) it would take you out of the atmosphere of the game, as you're reading rather than being involved in the situation.

If it was a game like Monkey Island, appearing on a desert island and you character doesn't understand the language, then it should be native with subtitles, as it's adds to the authenticity of the situation.

It all depends on the quality of whatever english dubs are being put in. Although the original voices can also be very annoying, which could be a reason to switch to bad, but still better dubs.

One of the flashbacks in lost covered this really cool

In the start of the flashback they're speaking arabic with subtitles, and the camera passes behind something (I think it was a microphone) as it panned across the room and when it went to the other side they were speaking english.

It was like "yeah, they're still talking arabic, but we'd like you to fully understand what they're saying and try to grasp the subvocal context of their words"
