Valid point, but when you have a 50inch TV you might as well go the whole hog & buy a cinema screen :-Dcrimson5pheonix said:True enough, but when a 50" LCD or Plasma costs upwards of $2000 while a 50" DLP costs $1000, It'll take several years for the DLP cost to pass up the LCD/plasma cost. And it looks a bunch betterCousin_IT said:crimson5pheonix said:Neither. Where's the love for DLP?Projectors & TVs should never mixReplacement of the lamp / light bulb. The average life span of a TV light source averages 1-3 years (based upon how often the television is powered on and off and the duration of viewing) and the replacement cost for these range from $99 - $350, depending on the brand and model. After replacing the bulb a few times the cost can easily exceed the original purchase price of the television itself. Newer generations units use LED which effectively eliminates this issue, although a replacement bulb may be required over the extended lifespan of the television.

This. I got a really nice 47-inch plasma, and I love it. Also, as far as screen burn goes, all newer plasma tv's have built-in measures to prevent screen burn.searanox said:A good plasma television will completely destroy even the best LCD screen. LCDs tend to have better response rates and whatnot, but the contrast ratio and colour depth you get out of a plasma is way, way better.
Really? CRT? Really?Cousin_IT said:I barely notice a difference, except that plasma tends to be more expensive. Stick to good old CRT I say.
But I want it cheap! DLP 70" is only $1500-$2000!Cousin_IT said:Valid point, but when you have a 50inch TV you might as well go the whole hog & buy a cinema screen :-Dcrimson5pheonix said:True enough, but when a 50" LCD or Plasma costs upwards of $2000 while a 50" DLP costs $1000, It'll take several years for the DLP cost to pass up the LCD/plasma cost. This. While my CRT isn't quite that old, I see no reason whatsoever to replace it.TerraMGP said:It doesn't really matter. Just get a Cathode ray tube TV and call it good.
Quit obsessing over how a game looks and focus on gameplay for crying out loud. I'm still using the same Walmart TV i have had from the time of the SNES being new.
There are plenty of widescreen CRTs... they're just... bigger. Honestly I think the picture quality of high-end plasmas has beaten out even the best CRTs (yes, there are HD CRTs available), but the reason they became so successful in the first place was the relatively low cost, lack of bulk compared to projection TVs and high-end CRTs, and big marketing pushes, not picture quality.RhinoTuna said:I hate CRTs (Even though i have one), they're big and aren't widescreen. I used a 23 inch LCD for a few weeks from a friend and once i went back to my 17 inch CRT i realised just how bad my CRT really is. It's so much more difficult transporting my monitor since it's the size of the moon.
