Recently the leaders of the Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott has posted that on 21/10/09 they will shut down. Now many of the members were outraged so a new boycott has been continued. My question is whether this is a good thing or not. I think not mainly because they just wanted the DLC to continue and that is going to happen, now all the people who think they got cheated out of mainly came here. Here is a link to the group. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/l4d2boycott2

The search didn't show anything about this.

This is not a "first post"

I can understand if they want to get "more bang for their buck", but we've all known about this sequel for a while, so I doubt this boycott is going to go anywhere.

P.S. "21/10/09"? I didn't know that there were 21 months in a year. *chuckle* The correct format is MM/DD/YY

EDIT!

I don't know how I can state this so that all of you narcissistic morons can understand it.

1. I was not aware of the fact this format was used in Europe. America brainwashes all of it's inhabitants to think that their way is the only way.

2. I am not a nationalistic American elitist, as a matter of fact, I despise America.

There, now that that's said, there's something that I need all of you to do: Don't jump to conclusions unless you have all of the facts. READ THE GOD DAMNED THREAD!
The only people who had the right to comment about my post were the first four that corrected me. But the rest of you continued to flame me without reason EVEN after I posted two follow-up posts explaining how I was wrong. It's amazing that, when you're dealing with idiots, a trivial mistake can spread into a fucking wildfire on the internet.
I do thank the people who were simply trying to correct me, but as for the insulting bastards, I'm going to have to kindly ask you all to fuck your mothers.

Only in America, alot of other countries use DD/MM/YYYY, which makes more sense to me

Anyway, I think that there starting a new boycott just do get Gabe to visit them and give them free rides and stuff
I'm onto them...

Do you really want to pay 60 dollars for a game you have already but now it has a few things changed?

Not if you live in Australia. Besides, it makes more sense to go DD/MM/YY.

They stated, in the group (And I quote):-Valve to honor its promises to release ongoing and quality periodic content that will sustain the Left 4 Dead community regardless of Left 4 Dead 2's new features.*

*This content, as described by Valve, would be in the form of maps, weapons, unlockables, and new characters. We feel that Crash Course and stopwatch mode do little to satisfy this promise of unique content.
...

WHAT?

They are never satisfied!

That's what renting is for...

I really just think this boycott is rediculous. Either you buy the game or you don't.

Also, I have to follow one simple rule, IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE IT.
It's a very simple rule. Wait until you play it before you slam it with criticism and boycott threats. I haven't played it, so I have no stance on whether or not it will be good or bad. I'll rent it. If it's good, awesome. If it's not worth it, I'll move on to the next game.

I'm sorry everybody, I was not aware of the fact that this format is used in Europe, America has a nice way of brainwashing its inhabitant's to think that their way is right. Please excuse my lobotomized ignorance. I'm moving to Australia.

Their boycotting efforts are in vane. It will only make people want to buy L4D2 even more.

No, I do not think the continuation is a good idea. I didn't think the boycott as a whole was a good idea.

What did they mean by character classes? It wasn't like Bill has better aim than Zoey does, but Zoey runs faster. Therefor, Francis has more health, and Luis is able to blend in with the zombies...or they mean the S. Zombies, but still.

I can easily see L4D2 as a new different game. New characters, new "Plot", new settings, etc.

My only complaint about L4D2 being released so early is that it isn't a new Half-Life, but I still intend to get L4D2.

There were about 60 boycott groups, actually. The one was just the most popular.

After seeing the comments left in the previous group's chat upon the announcement that they would be disbarring, I'm not surprised by this.

The basis here is on track record.
Company X has produced License Game Y, and re-released it several times with new textures under License Z about 5 times. The games sell amazingly and get horrible reviews. The games are all buggy and get no support anywhere. They announce Game L. Will Game L be good...?

Sure, it's an overstatement. And L4D got okay reviews, but many of the people in the boycott group don't think it's that fun. They expected more, and didn't get it. The criticisms are actually mostly for the first game.

What somehow amazes me is the massive pointless "backlash" towards the boycott. People flame them and somehow try to "protest" the boycott. If you truly don't care, why are you paying attention to it? I fail to see any logic to the massive groups of people trying to protest other people not liking a game. If this were any other franchise, this would be a complete non-issue. Battlefield 2 got poor support, lags, and is unbalanced? Okay, don't get BF2142.
And suddenly...

WTF BOYCOTTERS DIE IN A FIRE BBQ JUST BUY IT.

Not many boycotters are really "whiners". We just hit the join button out of apathy for paying another $50, and then don't pay it much concern for a while and see what happens.

That said, I don't think the continuation of the boycott really means much, good or bad. Chances are, if Valve wasn't lying outright about their promise for continued support (which I think we all hope for) then the group will disband as soon as those promises are fulfilled. Many of the people in the group may even end up getting L4D2.

Hurray! Good choice, we have the best beaches.

OT: I don't really mind what valve does, ill probably end up with a pirated copy or buy it in 6 months time when the price has dropped.

I said it once, I'll say it again:
The boycott was a rediculous notion to begin with. I think some gamers are getting too damn spoiled these days. You spend $60 to get a new game and you demand that you should get more free stuff before the company dares release a new sequel? It wasn't long ago that the idea of getting extra content was amazing and that companies were great for even supporting the game after release.

Now, if a game doesn't have some DLC, people whine as if their $60 was worth more than the game already got. That $60 didn't buy you some two-year stake in extra content after release. It got you the damn game you have and should be grateful to get anything more. And the majority of the boycotters were probably out of the Steam community who had been getting the extra content for FREE. They are protesting that they won't get more FREE content.
The boycott is useless and is the same as being that screaming kid crying about wanting a toy we all know he won't be playing with in a month (because he'll be playing LFD2).
