Some form of leader infected that can direct the horde, it only has a melee attack but with the left click the player can basically laser guide any zombies in the area, though without spawning any new infected. Could work well with the boomer which could spawn a horde, then the leader could guide the zombies to a new target.
Almost like using the bug bait from half-life 2.

The Blind: tank variant that's so fat its eyes are covered by its face folds. It will hulk around until shot or bumped. its slower then a tank and does the same damage but its bigger and takes more to kill it.

Spider: has long legs and arms that can jump around like a hunter but only has a longer range melee attack that does very little damage.

Not everyone can afford a suit like Nick's and you can't go out wearing a suit that is worse than his i mean seriously that would make you look pathetic

The Smasher.

Appearence: right arm resembles the Charger´s, the left one is hollow. otherwise he looks like a normal infected.

Main Attack: the Smasher (once his red meter is full) launches himself by slamming the hollow arm into the ground and then launching himself in a general direction (jump is thrice as high as a hunter leap) and then he will crash down on whatever he lands nearby. if he lands directly on someone, they take 30 damage and is knocked extremely far back (horizontal, not vertical), while people in the vicinity of the crash (3-12 feet) take minor damage and is momentarily stunned.

my idea combined with yours would be absolute rape in a box :D
I think there's a small drawback to yours though, and that being indoor levels.

How about something like the poison headcrab zombie from HL2?
Some kids jumping onto you and slows you down without doing any damage. I'll call it ...The Huggers!

i have an idea aswell:

the 'inducer'

a small human, with his face mostly ripped off, constantly vomiting

main attack is to grab a survivor and vomit down their throat causing the survivor to 'induce'
the survivor induces a small organism, which digs itself into the survivor. mutating the survivor and his/her bones ripping out with a bit of flesh. the infected survivior then attacks its teammates, turning them into inducers aswell.all the procces takes is 40 seconds

special attack is to once again grapb a survivor and vomit and organism down his/ her throat inducing a bigger organism literally ripping the survivior insides.this procces takes only 30 seconds

The Brat: A baby zombie, it just cries like the witch, but crawls. It can't climb ladders, or attack people, but once it is disturbed (sleeps during night crawls during day) it cries, summoning small hordes. And it will keep summoning every five seconds until it dies, upon which it will summon a boomer like horde. Can be avoided.

The Flasher: Teleporting Zombie (Could use some work there, just really quick travel) hit's you, then teleports off, each hit does 10 damage. if it's being played by the AI, it's slowed down. It's sped up a bit if being played by HUmans (Humans take longer to think than computers generally :D). The Flasher is meant to attack you, then run before you can fight back. It can't incap you with it's abilities (Damage incap only). Perhaps a boss infected?

I like that Leecher idea, but not the ability to fire barnacle-like projectiles. That seems to make it just a little overpowered. A sneaky life-drainer though, I like that. Not that I really want a Left 4 Dead 3, and not like Valve is planning on one soon, but if they did, or if they added more to the existing games, I would like the Leecher to be included.

Maybe some kind of different super infected instead of the tank ...

The Spike.. can throw/fire spikes at survivors from long range which slow their movement speed when stepped on... or some kinda of AOE movement slowing ability similar...

The Shield.. a Tank like infected whose purpose is to block survivors and to protect other special infected.. (a smoker pulls a survivor the survivors shoot at the smoker but cant do any damage because the shield is taking the damage... or blocking someone who is pounced) The shields hp should be high but damage capability quite low instead acting as a support type instead of an offensive type.
I like these ideas as well. Damn, you guys are really making me want to try fighting these things now...
Yeah I do too :p but sadly i'm not programmer so i can't even try and work them out...

A jockey that somehow comes to life in the real world, possesses a developer, and makes him work on Episode 3.

Tunneler: Zombie that digs hollows out the earth underground, waits for survivors to cross over top, and tears the ground out from below, forcing survivors to help them out of the hole, or be food for the tunneler.

(Works similar to the hunter, but he/she would have far more limited mobility.)
(BUT at the same time, they'd have far better cover, being, underground :p)

Also while your fighting it a small tickle of zombies swarm in attack, 3-4 at first but increases as the blind takes damage. It would look kinda like a tank and a boomer got together and made a baby.

They could always use a retooled screamer for this. To be honest its the best idea on here but its not very original, Think clown.
If it could gather up zeds like they were items, essentially despawning passive zombies then unleash them using its primary. From a rooftop or window you would have a nasty swarm.
Say a 10-15 zed limit and the screamer has to channel this ability with a horrid scream making him very vulnerable.

Plus the leech is small, so if you don't hit the leech when shooting you will hit the survivor.
I honestly can't imagine the average person you team with caring about whether or not they hit the person with the leech on them. They may just decide that molotovs are the best way to remove them.

"Jimmy, there is a baby leacher on you!"
"OMG"
"MOLOTOV!"
"Wait what? IT BURNS"

Haha that sounds familiar. I think I've seen that design somewhere..
I think it's this?-> http://chrisdrysdale.com/full/drysdale_haggard.jpg
I loved that idea though when I first saw it.

My idea
The Leecher: A special infected whoes front half has been dug out and covered in tiny teeth.
The leecher idea sound interesting, but it's hard to imagine... I'm mainly thinking of a giant leech sucking on people...but, shouldn't there be some more human characteristics?

But with other new special infected, I really hope they just bring back in their (Valve's) idea for the "Screamer" because I loved the eeriness of the idea of there being a zombie in a straight jacket running around and screaming to attract the hoard. :)

someone mentioned a new version of a tank..which i think could be cool

personally i'd like a big ass fucking boulder thing, with spikes on its head down its spine so (it believable has friction) and it straight up runs you over, causing you paralysis for a few seconds, along with some health taken away obviously

pretty cut and dry, just saying it'd scare the piss out of me (and bring me memories from the good ole crash bandicoot days) having a big ass boulder chasing me down

it would more or less roll up into a ball and try and run me over that way, not literally 'run'

Holy cripes, this is horrifying! Would it take the control away from the player, to make their character continue the process? I think the 'vomit down their throat' idea is a bit specific, personally.

The idea's workable though- maybe if there's a 'crisis' moment where the infected has grabbed the player, 5 or so seconds where they can be assisted by a teammate, but if it's not knocked off then they get hit. Then maybe if it causes some sort of 'berserk' effect, say.. If you're stood a certain proximity to another PC, you'll involuntarily melee at them as the screen flashes green? Or melee them instead of helping them up when wounded? It'd make you nervous about being too close to teammates, and would make ledges a bit riskier. A bit of a long-term effect, rather than 'they're dead, so worries are over!'

Also, thinking about it..

The 'Phage

A hulking mass, formed of 5 or 10 infected who've merged together in a clump of bloodied body parts(rotting into a large mass, where they've all fallen dead and stuck together before the smell of fresh survivor meat kicked their brainboxes back in?), that rolls or drops on to a survivor. The survivor within is entombed, requiring the boney, gooey shell to be broken through to rescue them. As time goes on their oxygen runs out and they're slowly eaten away by the corrosive acid in the middle of the 'Phage, causing slow, then quicker, then even quicker DoT.

The Splitter

Variation on the 'Phage, again a large mass of infected, all stood up but held together by the same goopy mass. As they're hit/damaged, the ball of nasty goo in the middle sprays, caused acid damage on the floor where it lands, and occasional infected to become detached. Once the outers are all fragged, there's a chance of a special infected being incubated in the middle; once the mass and acid are dealt with, how about a smoker to finish you off?
