Poll: Left 4 Dead Expert: Can I do it alone

Time and time again I have beaten Left 4 Dead on Advanced by myself with little or no problem. So recently I have decided to upgrade to Expert but no matter what I do I JUST CAN'T WIN. I go through the first 2 or 3 chapters untouched literally dragging my computer counterparts to each safe house but then when I reach that devastating fourth or in some lucky cases final chapter I reach a panic event I just can't pass almost as if I can't do it alone. Has anyone out there beaten Expert by themselves and I still have hope or is it time I found some friends or browsed online hoping to find some competent people?

I think you could do okay on Expert alone but having human players ensures you'll never have your group decimated or spread out because the AI made a bad call. Against that, npcs never rush without you and are more competent than some humans.

All in all I'd say you might be able to do it alone.... but probably not. You might not even be able to do it with 4 humans either.

The survivor AI is horrible so I wouldn't trust them at all. If you find yourself with the tank, you can be easily destroyed with 2 hits. The survivors are going to not know what to do and then up getting killed.

Try it with humans, but play with people who are more into working as a team instead of being with those "John Rambo" type of players.

Good luck with that. I've had players try to kill me just because I triggered a horde rush instead of letting them try and fail to use the minigun exploit for the 18th time.

I definitely prefer to play expert with humans for their ability to carry and use molotovs and pipebombs and more importantly the ability to communicate and coordinate. The AI bots will sometimes shout "smoker!" or "boomer!" but they can't tell you that said smoker or boomer is in the second floor window across the street. The AI seems to have a problem sneaking past witches too. Also, while the AI does well, human players can be told when to use the medkits and pills so as not to waste them (only using medkits when black and white). The only thing I like about the AI is that it will almost never friendly fire you and it won't run off without you and hog up all the medical supplies.

So Yes, it is possible, but no, I have not completed an entire campaign on expert alone.

A guy I know got really lucky. He walked through the entire game only encountering special zombies, guess the AI director must have liked him.

If you can check his banking history. I sense that there will be at least one payment to a Mr. Director. Also if he played on a pc check the console the next time he gets amazingly lucky.

Granted, this was a particularly egregious example. But I do find that finding a team of all non-Rambos is pretty hard, even if I'm playing with friends.

Rushing out in front of you, running way ahead of your party, using health packs when someone else could use it badly: this crap drives me crazy in L4D. Of course, it's far worse in other FPS co-op games. **cough** GOW2 Horde Mode **cough** I'm not the most skillful FPS player in the world, but I know how to follow a basic strategy.

It's not impossible, but it's quite difficult, given that the AI can't strategize.

ive done it by killing all but 1 of the AI.
