Of course they'll win. At a few points in the game, I would disguise myself as military, than stand next to a cop, and just watch him kill shit with his pistol. I never saw a cop died, nor did an infected ever get close enough to hit me while I was near one.

If a single cop can do that with a pistol, Francis, Zoey, Bill and Louis should have no trouble with their M1014 automatic shotguns.

If I'm not mistaken the virus in [Prototype] is a completely different virus than the one found in Left 4 Dead so wouldn't Francis, Zoey, Bill and Louis all get infected? Or is it a different process entirely because I've obviously forgotten.
