Left 4 Dead 2. Left 4 Dead 1 will always have a special place on my top 50 games list, but the sequel is just all around better.

I prefer L4D2, because it, as previous posters have stated, improves on just about everything.
The levels are greatly varied, with both daytime and nighttime levels. It has more weapons, not to mention the different kinds of ammo (which has a tendency to mess at least MY party up.).
The characters are still pretty interesting, at least Coach and Ellis, and the three new special infected are all great additions.

Not to mention that it gets HARDER, which was needed. Although it's even TOO hard for myself and the people I play with, but that's a different story.

I would have preferred if this wasn't a sequel, but rather an add-on or DLC to the first game, since it's basically the same thing, albeit improved. That said, I still love it.

Anyway, L4D2 hands down.

I agree, Left 4 Dead 2 is better, though one of my friends likes the first one better...at least at the moment! I especially like small details like how at the start, you don't have guns(even if it doesn't last for long) and that the survivors havn't met the special infected before (the first tank is very funny!) Also, is it just me, or does the storm in Hard Rain make you feel cold? As in storm cold.

I've only played the demo for 2 but I much prefered the first one, based on that. I prefered the characters and the atmosphere, the game feels better playing in a night setting. The melee weapons also seem to be nothing more than a novelty, not something I'd actually use all that often.

I haven't played either game that much... but L4D 2 has a much cooler setting then L4D. The south > stereotypical north american city.

Also, it's much nicer to be able to SEE the world that has been destroyed in the epidemic.

So if I would buy one of the games I would buy L4D 2.
