The title of this thread is the gist of what I actually said to my uncle while he played ModWar2 (Breathe was said when we realized what I was doing and was intended as a joke).

Have you found yourself instructing others on what to do to keep themselves alive while watching someone else play a game?

I did it with my friend yesterday. I'm sure I confused him, but he was enjoying the game he was playing (Insurgency).

I have before. Most memorable time was to a friend that had no idea what to do while playing IWBTG. Eventually he got the hang of it though.

Normally a keep my mouth shut and just let them play unless I have something that is actually helpful, or point something out that they may have missed; but never in an overenthusiastic manner.

Now if it's a fighting game....well I can't bare to watch someone make stupid mistakes in those and it hurts m to watch failure.

This, except replace 'a lot of my friends' with 'my wife'.
I have been able to get her to play some games (Good ones! Rainbow Six Vegas, for example), but she usually quits in frustration because I keep yelling "NO! There! Go there! There is a guy there! DUCK! DUCK! RELOAD! LEFT TRIGGER! Get against that wall! No, the WALL not the crate! They can still see you! NO! No, didn't you see him?? GEEZ!" At that point she gives me the 'wife glare' that only husbands know, and turns it off.

I gotta work on that.

I do this to my wee brother a lot, and he actually folows my instructions. I'd like think it's because he respects the fact that I've had a tonne more experience than he has, but I doubt it. Then again, any time he willfully disobeys my orders he tends to die.

Pretty much this. In a massively sarcastic condescending way.

"What made you do that?"

If someone doesn't know what they're doing, I let them figure it out for themselves: they're playing and I'm not, so it's their choice as to what they should do. Besides, most of the other people I watch play are new to gaming, so I like to sit back and let them get used to the controls/games unless they specifically ask for help.

Irony? :D

I mainly yell at people if I'm either on their team (I play splitscreen quite often) say in Fifa or MW2 or SSBB etc.etc.
Otherwise when watching one of my bros play a new game which we just got.(because other than then I cba to watch anyone play a game).

No, they'll figure it out for themself sooner or later. Maybe even learn a few things that they discovered that works too. Who is to say my way of playing and thinking over it is solid?

*Edit (keep doing this these days): If they want my opinion on how they are playing, they can always ask. Till that time, they probably just enjoy themself learning.

I do it to my dad all the time... He thinks every game plays like the real world, so when he sees something and I'm playing, he'll tell me to throw things at enemies and pull off certain moves that don't exist. and when I tell him, he goes "Why the hell not?"

so he'll play a game and he'll walk up to a door that doens't open, and he'll walk against this thing for 30 seconds asking "Why the hell isn't it opening" or "Then where the hell SHOULD I be going?"

"Your map dad, your map"

it gets bad when he's under fire... He doesn't check the map or damage indicators

No, I hate it when other people do that to me so I try to not do it to them, even if they're repeatedly fucking shit up and I know what they're doing wrong.

Playing Co-Op on Resi 5 is intense when they have just enough experience with games to know the basic controls of most games.

Force of habit... Though when I'm with my cousin I will give him the wrong information every now and again... Just to laugh my arse off when he falls down a pit. That or convince him to take the hard or longer route by telling him it would be quicker... Yeah I'm a dick head when it comes to back seat gaming.

I hate being forced into backseat gaming though, like when my brother can't do some thing (some thing which is obvious and will be explained to him by the game in time if it hasn't already been explained to him) so he asks and asks and asks until I have to pretty much play the game for him... I only like doing it when the player is competent so I can throw him off for shits and giggles.

Beware Tea... That glare often means cold night.
