Well obviously I would take the road without the monster in it because I know the one with the monster in it is the one that leads to my doom.

When in doubt, keep right. That is the general rule my brother and I have when biking on trails and such. But I'd probably make my decision based off which path leads me out of the forest or more towards the edge of it.

turn around, jump onto it's hairy being and go Shadow of the Colossus on his ass

alternatively, go left and haul ass

Is there an option for pulling out a knife and murdering the monster because that is what a real badass would do?
Bah! I'd use my bare hands.

Also, I'd go up.
I said real badass, not some superpowered bloke.
I never claimed to have superpowers and I never said I expected to win. I'd rather go down swinging than run away.

I default Left First.
In any game when there are branching paths and I expect to have to come back and go the other way later I will go whichever way I think will be shorter... and when it's equal I go left.

Left, because I'm right handed/footed so the monster (who in my mind is near-omniscient and knows I favour right) will be tricked into going to his left. That allows me time to get out my sword, cut it's knees/limbs to stop movement then run like a screaming *****.

Left.

Whenever I come to a fork in the road in games, I always go left.
Don't know why, I just...do.

Left. Gut feeling. It feels more 'right' to me. Which is weird since it's actually not right at all.

Maybe i'll just stop, and hope in the confusion the monster will too. :)

(you know what's really strange though, and I run into this alot in games, if I was trying to find the exit, say to escape said proverbial monster here i'd probably find a treasure box or something. If I was trying to find treasure i'd probably find the exit. It's like I can read level designers' minds. /randomthought)
