Poll: Lefties in Videogames.

Link. Nero. Sheva. The only left handed playable characters I can think of. So my question to you guys is if you can think of any other lefties.

Now I'm just complaining here (yes I know I just posted in a topic talking about how I don't complain about being a black left handed agnostic with a stutter but I've been planing on doing this topic for a while) but what I realized a while ago is that all games assume the entire world is right handed. I get that the majority of the world is so it makes some kind of sense to have the protagonist right handed but they also assume that EVERY npc or side character uses their right hand.

And there should be an option in games such as mass effect and Fallout 3 three where the character is supposed to be you.

However this is just a complaint, excuse this is you wish.

Oh, and can you think of any other lefty playable game characters.

Having an option to change which hand your character used sounds kind of pointless.

As for why they use right-handed mains, perhaps the people they use for the whole "Actual guy moves and they record it to make the game character move" thing tends to be done by right handed people?

I can't really think of any left-handed characters in gaming (other than the ones you guys have mentioned), although I like to think that Ezzio (Assassin's Creed II) is at least ambidextrous. Right Hand customizations are available in lots of games.

But I agree that lefties are awesome and should undeniably control the world and all the righties therein.

Yeah. On the Wii version they actually mirrored the whole game, I think, because they needed to make sure right-handed people could play it. I think there's a lefty option in there too, though.

I'm a lefty and I've never had a real problem with it, except for games where you use corner cover. It just seems so awkward to me when they look/shoot around corners using them right-handed. Still, not a huge problem.

Games need more southpaws. If I create myself in a game, and that avatar turns out to be right-handed, it just breaks the entire illusion.

I really don't think it matters...I didn't even notice Link was left handed until someone pointed it out. It's not as though games are saying right handed people are better, just more prevalent. And since it really doesn't matter, designers don't really worry about having right handed entities for the majority of their games. Honestly I don't care which hand my character uses...As long as it doesn't change the game in any drastically negative way.

There should only be an option to decide handedness when it would actually affect the game. Something like Brain Age on the DS or the upcoming Wii Zelda, for example.

I am right handed. The only useful tasks I've ever trained my left hand to do was fire a paintball gun (it's a handy skill) and steer a vehicle.

I've often wondered if left handed people curse the fates for being born a mutant freak since virtually every object assumes you are going to interact with it using your right hand. My current mouse for example would be, at best, mildly uncomfortable to use with the left hand for example.

In regards to left handed game characters it believe that the marine from Doom was left handed.

The majority of the world's population is right-handed, so it's only natural that most characters will end up being so, as well.

I, on the other hand, am slightly ambidextrous. I'm right-handed, but activities like billiards and shooting are far more comfortable with my left.
