Hey there! Anyways, I've always thought of myself as a struggling comic writer/artist and after so many years of NOT showing my stuff I've decided to finally just go ahead and do it.I was just wondering however how people would take to my characters and so what better way to test them out than with the cream of the interwebs intelligent few: The Escapist Forums

The project itself is a decontructive recontruction of the Superhero genre particularly focusing on the Silver and Modern Ages of the medium. The story is essentially about how three different generations of superheroes live in the world together.
Anyways here is some of the cast and some liner notes I've cooked up for ya. Crits and thoughts would be appreciated.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Irma Spink aka Ms. Amazing: A timid, shy and under-appreciated secretary at a chic fashion house, Irma lived a rather unimpressive life in a rather modest apartment with her best friend Jenny, in a rather boring nieghbourhood. It wasn't until Irma's own designs were passed off for the fifth time that Irma's life changed rather unexpectedly. Finding herself drunk at a beach she witnessed a strange meteorite fall from the sky right at her feet. Immediately exposed by the space rock's strange rays, she later realised that she had developed super-powers. Out of frustration and a hope of making her life more meaningful, Irma took it upon herself to use her powers in order to become Ms Amazing.

?Irma was most notably inspired by DC characters such as Wonder Woman and Power Girl with elements of Empowered and Spider-man as well. Most of her mannerisms however were inspired directly from a RL friend of mine.

?Irma is essntially a Flying Brick possessing the usual powers of Super-Strength, Invunerability, Flight, Heat Vision etc. Her origin is an inversion of Superman's weakness to Kryptonite and a homage to the film Meteor Man.

?Unlike most superheroes, Irma has an entire closet full of different outfits designed by herself. Unfortunately, Irma often forgets that she is going to be the one wearing them and often finds herself a little embarrased when she's in outfit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alan Broome aka All-Star: Dr. Alan Broome was a happily married Diagnostician when he was bombarded by rays from an experimental X-Ray machine. When he awoke he discovered that he could think, react and move at superhuman speed. At first, Alan was more than content to continue living his life normally until he was inspired by a story in the paper about a woman who lost her life becuase the ambulance weren't able to treat her in time. Encouraged by his wife Irene, Alan operated as a super-speeding medic and occasional do-gooder until he lost his job at the hospital. After he found himself unable to find another job, he contacted a patiant of his who happened to be a agent and approached the sporting goods company All-Star to see if he could become its mascot. The idea payed off and Alan officially became All-Star, The Fastest Man on Earth and the first sponsored superhero.

?Alan's name is in fact a portmanteau of The Second Flash, Barry Allen and one of the character's creators, John Broome

?Alan is obviously inspired by The Flash and his origin is a homage not only to the second Flash, Barry Allen but to the Silver Age in general. One of Alan's most unlikeliest of inspirations is in fact Rorschach, himsef inspired by the real life murder of Kitty Genovese. Much like the other characters from Alan Moore's Watchmen, Alan essentially serves as a decontruction (and a recontruction) of the Silver Age Superhero.

?After the accident, Alan's metabolism and circadian rythems were seriously altered. Now in order to properly function Alan has to eat at least 12 square meals a day and sleep for 13 hours a day. Its due to these changes and cut-backs that he lost his job at the hospital.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Roberts: Quantum Roberts was the only son of two Theoretical Physicists and, as you would expect, was a child prodigee. By the time he was in the early-mid twenty's he had already gained Ph.Ds in Mechanical Engineering, Quantum Physics and, while not officially recognized, had a working understanding of Chemistry, Biology and Computer Technology. Using his knowledge to assist various projects, Quantum travelled the world where he eventually met his future wife Helen (a distinguished Biologist in her own right) in Japan. It was here that the two discovered and defeated a Kaiju monster named Atomo The Nuclear Menance. Finding a new purpose in their lives, the two eventually became Science heroes funding their adventures through the various patents Quantum had designed and Helen's ground breaking research. Residing at Ross University, the duo soon became a quartet after their twin children Sam and Stacey were born. Today the family go everywhere together and are often assisted by Quantum's assistant, Leonard Ripley who often gets the unfortunate job of having to watch the kids (there was a reason only one person applied for the position).

?The Roberts are inspired by equal parts Challengers of the Unknown, Fantastic Four, Tom Strong, Meet The Robertsons and The Simpsons with elements of Silver Age Superman and Jim Olsen and The Secret Saturdays

?The Roberts are the most developed of all the characters because, quite simply, they're the oldest. First developed when I was 17, this is the fith interation of the family.

?Ross University is named so as a homage to Alex Ross who's favourite superhero happens to be Superman

Sorry bout the wallotext. If anybody is interested there are more characters

Always a fan of people being creative and showing what they can do :)

If I can makes a suggestion, though, I'd rethink some of the names. "Irma" is a little too old lady-ish, in my opinion, and has an unattractive pronunciation. "Quantum", while a great homage to some of the more kitschy superhero names, might be a little too silly even within that tradition.

Otherwise, onward and upwards!

Why thankyou AC.

I admit I am not the biggest fan of the name "Irma" myself. It's right up there with "Ethel" and "Agnes" on my most hated names list. Yet, it was also the last name I would ever associate with "Superhuman Strength or "Heat Vision". Also, it just SOUNDS nerdy and pathetic. I am open to suggestions though

NOTE: To anyone named Irma, Ethel or Agnes: I whole heartedly apologize

Oh and yeah, I agree. Quantum IS silly but...I just love it. I also think it would be cool to kinda lampshade the tradition of actaully giving PEOPLE names like that.

Again thanks for the support.

Also, not sure if this is true in the states, but 'Aunt Irma' is a euphemism for period. So, unless once a month she gains power but becomes bitchier, perhaps a change is on the roster. Nerdy and pathetic? Regina. Awsomeness. Anybody named Regina, I do apologise.

Otherwise, great stuff. I think Quantum is an awesome name.

...Why would you callnevermind I don't think I want to know. Regina? Regina Spink? I like that! Definately putting that on my list of name changes.

Anyways heres some more characters as promised

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dean Donlowe aka The Sentinel: Before he was chosen by The Sentinels, an intergalactic peace keeping organization, Dean was a harsh, tough-as-nails District Attorney with a less than healthy view of humanity. It was during his years in space that Dean was exposed to some of the most technologically and socialogically advanced species in the universe, each and everytime losing more and more faith in mankind. It was during a fight with an alien invasion that Dean was greviously injured. Rather than heal in the Sentinel's artificial homeworld, Dean chose to heal on Earth in an attempt to reconnect with humanity...He stayed for two years before he found the closest culture on Earth he could find to one he had previously encountered in space (a hidden temple/city in the Himalayas named Bhar Zhou Dong). Having spent years in Tibet, Dean has finally convinced himself to take up his duties out of boredom and out of disgust of the "sorry" state of superheroes these days, namely All-Star.

?Dean was inspired by the likes of DC's Green Lantern Corp (particarly Hal Jordon and Alan Scott), Marvel's NOVA Corp and Edward Elmer "Doc" Smith's Lensmen series. Other inspirations include the Jedi, Rom The Space Knight and Iron Man. The source of Dean's and every Sentinel's power comes from a highly advanced, alien battle-suit powered by Zero-point Energy.

?At this point in time, Dean is approaching his mid 60's. Even after having 15+ years to recover from his injuries his arm still gives him trouble.

?Visually,Dean was inspired by actor Linus Roach, who himself played an Assistant District Attorney in Law & Order. Personality-wise though, Dean is a combination of actors Clint Eastwood and John Mahoney.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Niel and Jack Harker aka Rumour I & II: A Father and Son vigilante team, very little is known about the original Rumour, Niel Harker. His origins are so shrouded in myth, that not even his Golden Age associates such as The Sentinel or his own son Jack are quite sure what is real and what is fictitous. The only thing that is certain is that Niel spent a great deal of his life travelling the world before he returned to the city equipped with everything he needed to begin his career as The Dark Avenger: The Rumour.
His son Jack however, has yet to establish such a notorious legend for himself. Originally starting out as his father's second sidekick, Jack took his father's position after a life of crime-fighting had left him with a bad heart. Now, with his father's guidance from their headquarters The Haunt, Jack stalks the streets, fighting crime as The Rumour.

?Niel and Jack are obviously inspired by Batman and the entire Bat-Family (including the Batman Beyond cast). There are however, elements of Daredevil and The Shadow as well. Like their inspirations, these two lack superpowers instead utilizing martial arts, deductive reasonsing and skills, gadgetry and fear tactics.

?Niel's first sidekick, Todd Jensons, is fondly remembered by Niel. He died in the line of duty however the same night Jack's mother died. Its because of their deaths, that Jack has dedicated his life to fight crime. Todd's name is of course a reference to Jason Todd, the second Robin, who also died in the line of duty.

?The name "Harker" is a reference to Dracula, whose cast of characters included Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray's fiance.

The "Flying Brick" part really gave me an amusing image in my head.

Anyways, seems quite good so far. The names could use some changing though (Irma? Really?).

Well, something like that.

Not too sure about the name, I'm really terrible with names. Willow maybe?

Also, her last name is just asking for trouble. You know SOMEONE will replace the "i" with a "u".

Harry Dauntless, Man from DAMOCLES: At 46 years of age, Harry Dauntless was set to retire from DAMOCLES and from the world of espionage and metahuman counter-terrorism. Having formerly worked for the FBI, Dauntless was chosen by the worldwide organization as a field agent where he would routinely deal with the likes of Supervillains, Alien invaders and other metahuman threats. It was during his last assignment, protective detail for the Director of DAMOCLES at the agency's technologies development centre, that Dauntless found himself pulled back into shadow world of spies. While succesfully protecting the Director, Dauntless was accidently injected with a nanite serum that successfully bonded to his DNA. It was soon found that the nanites had given Dauntless peak human abilities and a healing factor that could very well have slowed his aging. Now more than capable of taking down metahuman threats single-handedly, Dauntless has been re-instated back into action.

?The nanites are able to grant Dauntless limited Super-Strength, Speed and Endurance for limited amounts of time by essentially agitating his adrenal glands in order to produce more adrenaline. Dauntless' one true superpower however is his iron determination. Once he picks a course of action NOTHING will stop him.

?Dauntless was inspired primarily by Marvel's Nick Fury and SHIELD organization along with DC's superspy King Faraday. Other inspirations include the new Human Target series and Jake 2.0. James Bond is also there too.

?DAMOCLES stands for the Department Agency of Metahuman Overt/Covert Logistics and Espionage Strategies. Its serves as a world-wide metahuman counter-terrorism agency under supervision of the United Nations.

?This is the thrid time the name Harry Dauntless has appeared in my work. First as a normal detective in a city full of superpeople and then later a pulpesque two-fisted mystic. Dauntless itself is a synonym for Fearless.

and thats the main cast. If anyone is interested in any of the villains just say so.

Hmm, sounds really cool. Would you use humor in it? It has great potential...
Yes actually. Ms Amazing and The Roberts titles I was hoping to focus more on comedy and action/adventure while others like All-Star and The Sentinel are more dramatic in tone.

I also plan to do a few comedic short story titles like "The Talented Leonard Ripley" which focuses on The Roberts plucky assistant and the tribulations in his life since joing the family.

More than willing to oblige. Lets get things started right with my personal favourite:

Rabu Sahn aka Rabu Ram: Best known to the television viewing world as Rabu Ram Th Great, Master of the Mind and Keeper of the ancient ways of the Orient, he was born Rabu Sahn in the slums of India. Gifted from an early age, Rabu spent most of his live travelling the Asian continent where he learned the secrets of self-enlightenment from the worlds greatest, yogis, fakirs and wisemen. It was in a secluded monastery in Nepal that Rabu finally exceeded himself and learnt how to utilize his "third eye". Rabu soon grew bored with the idea of enlightenment and humility and decided to become a star in America where he became something of a stage magician using the skills he had learned in his travels to entertain, It wasn't long before he became bored of fame as well and so using his ability to cloud the mind's of men and the best legal help his kind of money could buy, he turned to crime for the sheer thrill of it.

?Rabu Ram is based of two Illusionists in particular. Spider-man's Mysterio and Batman's Spellbinder along with some Dr. Strange. One of the characters major inspirations however was the Television Pyschic, John Edwards.

?Despite his garrish appearance, which feature a feathered turban high collar cloak and pencil thin moustache, Rabu Ram is a very dangerous opponent. Master of various estoric martial arts and his mastery of the mind (hypnotism, illusion casting etc) Rabu's most dangerous attribute is his unsettlingly Dangerous Genre Savvyness.

?Rabu Ram is an enemy of All-Star. Whenever he starts to play with the Speedsters perception of reality it always starts to turn into a hyper-unreal, Inceptionesque world...funny how something you think of always tends to look better on screen.

?His powers stem from his "third eye". A chakra that allows him to not only access the deepest reccesses of his own mind but that of everyone else. Thus Rabu Ram can read minds, hypnotize people and of course illusions so realistic, the victim can no longer distinguish fanatasy from reality.

more to come just need to find the notes. Hope you like

Noah aka The Praeter-Mate: Once upon a time, a baby mountain gorilla was taken away from his home in deepest African jungles. Luckily, that little baby gorilla was saved and was taken in by a group of scientists where he was taken good care of growing into a healthy, handsome Silverbavck and even learned sign-language. Little did the Gorilla know however that he was being specially prepared to become a test subject. Systematically given nootropic drugs and stimulants, it was thought to be a happy day when he first spoke, the reality however was much darker. Learning everything from his trainers and scientists from neurology, psyhcology and even bio-chemistry, Noah soon started to develope a secret disdain for them and for people in general. Horrified at the thought of using animals to test would-be dangerous drugs and how the enviroment and hundreds of species were being wiped out, Noah soon acted out his plan. Using his lobotomised trainers as a front in order to move the lab into the Amazon, Noah (who now took to calling himself Praeter-Mate) started to build an animal reserve and plan out his goal to purge mankind and restore the enviroment to the Eden it originally was before Man.

?The Praeter-Mate's main inspiration was obviously inspired by DC's Gorilla Grodd with elements of Ra's Al Ghul and the biblical Noah.

?Despite his objection to testing animals, The Praeter-Mate has further developed the original formula and has used it on a few animals in his reserve to create minions. One of these minions, a spider-monkey named Darwin, later rebelled and joined The Roberts becoming one of the family.

?The Praeter-Mate essentially sees himself as an eco-warrior, defending Mother Nature from "the failed experiment that is mankind".

?A genius with an IQ of 186, The Praeter-Mate is an expert in all things regarding Biology and Neuro-Chemistry. Despite his intelligence, the great ape still can't quite his bad habit of smoking cigars.
