So tonight on my way in, I found yet another surprise in the hallway of my apartment building.

Someone has left trash in the hall that looks like it had fallen out of someone's garbage bag. AGAIN. This time it's a bunch of rotten bananas. In the past I've found: Pizza boxes, half a rotten melon, drink bottles, candy wrappers, and newspapers.

Is it right that this bugs the living shit out of me?

I've never caught anyone... if I did, I'd say something to them. It's like it falls out of their trash, and they're too damned lazy to pick it up.

I live in a college-student heavy neighborhood. I mention this because some of these kids leave shit EVERYWHERE. What chance does our world have if educated young adults can't pick up after themselves?

What do you guys think I should do about it? Usually I just pick it up, but is that helping? I've thought about leaving nasty notes- something along the lines of "PICK UP YOUR MESS, ASSHOLE".

If I knew who did it I would put it right in front of their door.

I guess I can't figure out why anyone could be so lazy. Thoughts?

Talk to your neighbours about it and attempt to get them fined if they try to do it again, that will teach them to be a bunch of lazy bastards.

Put up signs saying they are being videod and litterers will be shot. If they are that dumb/lazy they will believe it.

I have the same problem with random people chucking garbage in our front yard. Being a very environmentally friendly person (except I seem to consume a lot of power), it gets infuriating.

And they can't blame us for dumping, because none of us eat Cheezels.

Put up cameras and report them. If it makes you feel any better, it's how your brought up that makes you hate rubbish, so your parents probably felt the same way. It is right to bug the shit out of you.

This. A little paranoid, but it sets everyone's mind at ease.

leave the notes on all the houses in the area. and talk to your landlord, complain, and drop the hint that it COULD be a health code violation. perhaps volunteer to lend him/her/them a security camera for a few days to figure out whos doing it.

Take photos and get in touch with the landlord. It won't lead to anything overnight, but perhaps an official warning letter to everyone in the block will put them off.

Good way to get put in prison. Report it to the landlords and insist that THEY put the cameras in so you can't get in trouble for it.

Trip over it and sue the complex. If you live in the U.S. you could probably win.

Find a few like minded individuals among your neighbors and see what can be done about it.

uve got the right idea, but you need to use social ridicule as well, leave a note in the lobby that reads as follows.

IMPORTANT

Everyone make sure to thank unit (insert unit number here) for the garbage in the (insert floor here) floor hallway. That lovely aroma is thanks to unit (insert) and i think we should all join together in making sure they know that we all appreciate the effort.

I think you should pick the litter up and build a giant robot out of it all. Then knock on their door and say "You know how sometimes you leave your rubbish outside my door, well I've been collecting it and, well..." then point at your death bot. They'll shit themselves, which will do nothing to prevent your smelly hallway problem but it'll get your point across ;)

I just figured out what I am going to do!!!

I have some memos from our property management in a file. I'm going to scan a sheet, forge my own management company letterhead, and post notes on everyones door that says "Littering on the premises is getting out of control. If anyone is caught leaving trash around, they will be evicted."
