Indeed. The truth you believe is the perceived truth and will fool any lie detector because you believe it, fervently.

define: lying (on google)
"the deliberate act of deviating from the truth "

So if you don't know what you're saying is incorrect, you're not lying, you're just wrong.

Also, welcome.

A lie by definition is giving the wrong answer with the intent to mislead. If you think x is true and it is false it is not a lie if you say x is true, just wrong.

If it's a belief, then it's really not a lie. Lies are when you know something but tell something different from what you know. It's not a lie if you haven't seen your friend cheat on his GF (he has for this story) and she asks you if he did and you reply "I don't know".

Ah, no. While you certainly can't be lying if you believe what you are saying to be true, but you can still be incorrect. Incorrect things are not true.

Indeed and I agree. By this point it isn't a lie, it becomes willful ignorance or self-delusion.

No, because lying is meant to be decietful. What you are referring to is ignorance.
Ignorance and dishonesty are not the same, but can lead to the same result.
Like peeing in the pool and peeing INTO the pool.

Unfortunately something you believe in, however deeply, cannot be the truth if is proven to be false.

Although it's not a lie either, it's simply wrong.

Well you see this quite frequently, usually anything after the first two or three posts is pretty much the same reply, just worded differently.

Lying is when you deliberately intend on telling something that isn't true.

If you believe something to be true, its not a lie.

And the funny part is that in this post-modern world, a lie that is spoken as the truth HAS become the truth. Much like how Spinal Tap was never a real band, seen in a mockumentary, an then suddenly there's a band called Spinal Tap in real life.

As long as it's not a cake.

OHO YES I WENT THERE!

...Sorry.

Anyways, yeah basically what everyone else before me is saying, if you believe it's true, then you aren't lying. ^^

Well I put yes but I got caught in a logic loop that crashed my brain trying to explain it. Suffice to say you're spreading falsehood but should not be held accountable due to your being lied to or receiving corrupted/insufficient information.
