So, in my Speech Communications class we need to write a "relationship analysis" paper, over a relationship we've either had or are having. But, for my tastes, that's just a little more personal information than I like to share in a gen-ed class. On top of that, even if I used an actual relationship, I'd probably have to falsify some information in order to meed all the requirements of the paper anyways. So, instead of writing about an actual relationship, I've decided to just make one up... borrowing heavily from relationships from fictional series. I was thinking that basing my fake person off one of the characters from Clannad might be good for some laughs... but I digress.

The point is, this person needs to have a believable name. Which is why I come to you, good people of the Escapist. Who wants to help me make up a person for my report?

In related discussion, has anyone else ever made up anything like this for a scholastic paper? What'd you make up? Have any advice for me?

Well if a relationship is needed at one point for that class I know which one to dodge... unless it's one of those damn ones you have to do to graduate -.-

Well for the name and a bit of backstory.. a modern name like say... Rebecca or Megan or something along those lines, just something you can look at and think "Yep, girl's name," and [your name here] were dating for a while but then had to brake up when she moved out of country to [country that isn't yours here]

Erica?
Monica?
Jessica?
Maria?
Veronica?

Jeez, It's not that hard to invent a believable name you know.

I do it ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I consider it a way to use my creative writing skills in the impersonal, cold world of business (and also a Discordian-inspired way to prove how dumb my professors can be.)

It's excellent practice for when I write fiction because it lets me work on developing believable characters.

Oh, and to answer your question, a nice generic name will never do you wrong. Natalie, Becky, Samantha, Michelle...or, if you want to introduce a foreign flavor, consider some Russian names like Daria, Svetlana, Olga, Ilyana...

Well, it's just for the class here at the university I attend, I don't know what you have to do for other Speech Communication classes. It doesn't have to be a romantic relationship either, but most of my really dynamic relationships have been my romantic relationships, so I think it'll be a lot easier for me to make up something believable as a romantic relationship.

Not a relationship, but lots of other stuff, as unfortunately I'm a very good liar.

Yeah, but I thought it'd be fun to bring some more people in on it.

Ahh... that makes it a bit easier.. maybe it's the fact that I'm High School or something but the second I see or hear the word "Relationship" my mind instantly goes to dating and stuff like that -.-

They say your a good writer if you can take pieces of your life and insert them in to your writing. I say your a great writer if you can bullsh*t all of it. :p

Since you used some bits from Clannad why not just use the character names.

Okazaki :D

Something tells me that using the character names from Clannad might end up pressing the believability of my paper just a bit. Plus, if my professor does start thinking "hmm... something might be wrong here," if they search the name, they could easily stumble across a Wikipedia article detailing a character who seems surprisingly similar to my person. No, best to make up a name.

Essentially we had an English class where we had to make a fantasy story atleast 8 chapters long. All I did was copy/paste the first volume of "A Song of Fire and Ice". Actually that's also the story of why this is my username almost everywhere.
Damn man, you couldn't get away with that here. They've got this program called Turn It In, it's a plagiarism detection software. They put every single paper you turn in through it. If you plagiarize even a single sentence, even from the most obscure work, this thing will catch you. I shudder to think what would happen if I copied an entire volume of something else. I may be willing to lie about my life in a paper, I don't know that I'd go that far though.

That's pretty low.

I remember doing a fantasy story that was a version of the Hobbit with the characters replaced with what I had for lunch that day. Beef jerky, broccoli, carrots, etc.

I suppose being in a three way relationship with a wiccan bisexual called Luna is bit out there.

Anyway, just look up a list of common names and grab one of those.

Actually. If I were you, I would go with an online relationship. You could pitch it as being more of a study on the differences between normal and online relationships. But in reality you would have these weird nicknames and you would be making fun of everyone who ever dreamed of taking this ridiculous report seriously.

You could get away with some really ludicrous things if you play your cards right.
