I was into MTG back when I was a kid, but stopped buying new cards back around the 7th edition. I originally bought a starter pack sort of by accident - I didn't know anything about the game, I was just intrigued by the nice cover art to be honest. I still love the aesthetics of Magic cards.

After buying rather crappy booster packs for some time (when you're a kid they're REALLY expensive), I got a couple of expert pre-set decks. It just seemed more efficient and worth the money, but kinda takes away some of the fun of collecting I guess.

Only ever played it with a couple of friends, and they usually just borrowed my cards, so I never really got that much into it. Still play from time to time when I meet up with my old friends, so I guess my answer is "fun, but too expensive".

Noobification? It made the game more complex by getting rid of damage on the stack...

People need to learn about choices
Yes. Noobification.

http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/42a

Rather than to teach people the rules of the game, they changed the rules to reflect what the noobs, sorry "casual gamers", thought they should be.
You have to admit that those changes are just common sense.. and wanting to keep them the way they were is just a bit stubborn
Umm, no.

The conga line of death, what passes for combat nowadays, does not, in any way shape or form, make any sense whatsoever.

Besides, the reasoning being the rules changes read, to me at least, as just a big "FUCK YOU!" to the community of judges and all the players who bothered to learn the rules in the first place.

well after coming back to magic after leaving the game in the Kamigawa set, I still find Magic as enjoyable as ever...except for mythics, planeswalkers, and no more mana burn >.<

I played Magic ONCE... I was unfamiliar with the rules.. and I was playing it with closet nerds. I thought it was neat and wanted to continue playing, but circumstance had us part ways.

I have no one to really play it with, and I can't teach anyone because I don't really know how to play myself. Most people I come across see playing Magic as more embarrassing than D&D.. so I'm pretty much at a loss. I like Magic.

Factoid: I keep my Magic cards in the drawer where I also store my condoms.
Factoid #2: That drawer has been without condoms for quite some time... I do not blame that Magic Cards.

Magic and Yugioh are the only card games I will play. I've tried plenty and they all sucked compared to these two, however any REALLY good card costs a ton at a hobby shop or have a chance to get owned by false ebay ads... Or the luck of the draw. :/

I bagged on it because I thought it was similar to Yu-Gi-Oh. Boy was I wrong. I just started, but I'm learning quickly, especially with my infect deck (mwahahaha! Feel the frustration of having only 10 HP!)

I started heavily playing some time around when Mirage first came out, and damned if I'm not still digging it. It introduced me to the whole concept of gaming as I know it now, a massive glorious umbrella featuring CCGs, table-top RPGs, super-geeky board games and non-collectable card games, and of course my beloved video games. It's damn fun, ate up a lot of hours in our especially geeky house back in college, and to this day is the easiest way to find something to do with old buddies when they drop by, to the extent that it's not uncommon for most of us keeping a deck on hand- often a rather gloriously outdated deck, but still -for such visits.

tl;dr, Magic kicks ass and anyone who wants to play it kicks ass too.

Magic is really fun when you have friends to play with. I used to play down at the card shop before it closed up. My friends and I even had a booster draft yesterday.

MTG is indeed a rather nerdy thing to be interested in but who cares. I'm nearly 22 and i love the game and so do several friends of mine.

I use to be in Magic, buuut there was a problem. You see, I came to realize that the whole darn thing was getting to be way too ridiculous for me. Some of the cards out there are insane, bullshitty, and pointlessly complex. When you start getting like that, it becomes less fun. And how do I know? Well, take a gander over at yonder pair who have been playing the same round for five hours. I'm sorry, but a game like that? No thanks. I got other things to do.

I used to play it waaaaay back in the day when I was like 12 or 13. I still have a box of cards that I keep meaning to find out are worth anything since a lot of them are from first/second edition.
Nowadays though, not really a fan. I even tried playing a few PC versions and the latest tactics one. I just find that there is way too much chance involved for a strategy game.

I played for a few months and really enjoyed it, but like a lot of awesome things I used to enjoy including anime, learning Japanese and Dragon Age, I dropped it after I broke up with my last boyfriend because he got me into them so they made me sad.
And then I haven't got round to picking them back up again.

Although I have no idea who I'd play Magic with now, unless I pop round my ex and his five housemates' place and am like HEY GUYS WE HAVEN'T ALL HUNG OUT IN OVER A YEAR HOW ABOUT SOME MAGIC hey, you've still got my decks, right?

But I may have had a close call because it's an expensive hobby!

Pretty fun game.

I remember years ago at my local card dealer one of the guys walked in with a 10/10. I bought it, threw it into my deck instantly. I don't think I ever summoned it tbh.

I love Magic. I got back into it after visiting the local card shop and drafting Rise of the Eldrazi. Pulled Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief from the first booster, proceeded to come fourth overall in the draft. Then when Mirrodin Besieged came out I was there for the pre-release and ranked eighth out of 20 in the war-themed draft (Mirrodin boosters FTW).

Now that I'm back into Magic, I'm working on a couple of decks. Mono-white kitty production, mostly from Scars of Mirrodin and M. Besieged, designed to swamp the opponent with low-power cats and metalcraft for their bonuses. Deck #2 is mono-red, intended to burn with Lightning Bolt and other low-cost damage-dealing instants. And of course, my black-red Rakdos-themed Hellbent-specialisation deck, from back when I took a break from the game and didn't pick it up until a few years later.

Working on a mono-black infection deck, though I could branch out to black-green to increase the number of cards with infect that I actually possess.

Way too expensive to enjoy it. I played some demos and some free versions on the pc and it is pretty fun but I'm not gonna invest money into a card game when there are a lot better free and cheap games.

MTG is a lot more mature than your average card game and that's why I like the sense one gets from it. The last pack I saw had cards the size of A4 sheets! How can you not like that? That said, I have only played it once. I got tempted to start but I got into D&D 3.5 and I got hooked.

To everyone that plays it though, good for you (nothing you don't already know) cause you are into something that kicks ass. I mean, how cool does this sound?

If you could cast one spell for the rest of your life, what would it be?

An entire booster pack series was based to this. Wow.

To anyone who hasn't tried it yet, give it a shot cause you are in for a treat.

Haven't played it in years though still have my cards from over a decade ago. I played when it was unlimited (3rd ed?) and revised ed. and Legends and Ice Age expansions. I ought to try and sell some of them. My favourite and most effective deck was a blue/black deck that revolved around Lich [http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/details.aspx?name=Lich] (lose all life and draw a card whenever you gain a life) and Illusions of Grandeur [http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=159749] (gain 20 life). I also had Ancestral Recall and Time Walk, Mahmotti Djinns, Dopplegangers, Royal Assassins and some others I can't remember.

At its finest, in a game with 5 others I was able to win in one go. Once you get 20 cards in your hand it makes quite the difference. It was apparently the right combination of cards and I took out two players, Time Walked and took out the other 3. It was a fun and exciting game and about as good as I ever got :)

I think they may make prebuilt and balanced decks now for beginners to play, might pick up a few of those and see if I can convince anyone to have a go.
