Poll: Man of Steel; Why the hatred?

Huuu, why isn't there an option to say 'I saw it and I hated it'? This way you make it sound like only people who did not see it could hate Man of Steel. Believe, it's not like that.

Maybe I'm confused by your question but there is an option for that. Basically the options are (in order on the poll):

The poll asks a different question than the name of the topic so maybe that's where some confusion popped in?

The Lion King sucks WAAAAY more than people want to admit...which why I find it kinda interesting/funny that they're getting the comparisons. Both are the inferior, overhyped films that overshadow the real Disney champions of their respective eras (Wreck-It-Ralph, Tangled, Princess & The Frog > Frozen. Bolt was okay.)

Sooooo...you lack an appreciation for Shakespeare.

Also, Wreck-It-Ralph is hugely overrated.

As someone who couldn't give less of a fuck about superman canon, I rather liked it.

The bit where he holds up the collapsing oil rig? Awesome.
The bit where he prepares to fly for the first time, and you get the stuff levitating, and then sonic boom ************. Awesome.
The first fight against the kyrptonians? Ie the one where he's against the woman and the gigantic dude, and the army gets involved too? Awesome.

There were some pacing problems and goofy bits, it was nowhere near as profound as it kept trying to be, and the romance seemed a bit... well, a bit Anakin and Padme-ish. But other than that it was an enjoyable film.

I absolutely hated it. Well, 99% of it. There were some cool bit pieces, but for the most part it was a typically bad Zack Snyder movie. Way too much "style", not nearly enough meaningful substance.

Something's been bugging me about several comments here, though.

Alright, this is going to seem mildly out of place here but I'm not sure where else to put it. I wasn't around for a while in the beginning and then things in the thread began piling up and up and up and up. I was just going to let it go but the thread is still kicking so people must like to talk about this Therefore, I will try to address as many of the complaints as I can (well, the objective ones at least since as I've stated, things like the Flashbacks that people didn't like I really liked ). I apologize now if I skipped your question.

1. Adjusting to the atmosphere quickly
It seemed to me that Zod was the only one who actually adjusted to the atmosphere quickly. All of the other Kryotonians kept their equipment on which filtered out the problems Superman dealt with in the flashbacks. The only one who broke out was Zod, in which Superman told him how he dealt with it and Zod, being bred for combat, was able to learn how to control it quicker than a young Superman could.

2. Why were the bad guys released?
I assumed that the device that kept them in the black hole zone (or whatever it was called) was powered either by Krypton or needed refueling/repowering. When no one was around to refuel it, it shut down and released whatever was being held prisoner (Zod and company).

3. Why was Lois brought on the ship?
Leverage? That's my excuse.

4. Why terraform Earth and not...anywhere else?
You got me there. I'm just giving the movie the benefit of the doubt that for some reason, it had to be Earth. We saw the other planets that were terraformed (Zod visited a bunch to find Superman) and those places looked shitty and everyone was dead. I'm assuming Earth is different somehow.

EDIT: Wow, I feel kind of dumb. Thanks Big_Willie_Styles below, revenge is the perfect reason why Zod went with Earth instead of going somewhere else.

5. Why does it bother Superman so much to kill? It's a reboot so why do we assume he hates killing?
I think this was a better example for something I talked about earlier with someone (showing not telling). It's clear that Superman doesn't want to hurt things. He wants to not expose himself but he just can't help himself when trouble is around. I thought it was also clear he didn't want to hurt anyone cause the military kept shooting him and he kept not killing them for it. I thought this was one aspect that the movie demonstrated quite well.

6. Why did Superman visit a priest?
I assume based on his upbringing that his family was religious.

7. Why was Clark wandering the land?
He didn't want to stay in one place too long in case people figured out his secret. Every time he did something heroic, he had to leave and based on what we saw of him and the interviews Lois does, it's pretty safe to say that he does lots of heroic things.

8. Why not move the fight?
That wasn't exactly Superman's choice. The bad guys were the ones attacking, he was on defense. I suppose he could have flown away and hoped that Zod and company would chase him but he seemed pretty busy trying to not get his ass kicked by a bunch of aliens and/or stopping the ship/robot/whatever from terraforming Earth.

I can almost guarantee I've missed some (objective) complaints so I apologize now. I have been reading each response since the thread was created and only now have really had the time to jump in and comment on complaints. I don't know if you'll buy what I'm selling but these were my interpretations of the events.

It had some of the best action sequences we're going to see for a while in superhero movies, or any movie at all. Two godlike beings fighting each other using several cities as their playgrounds. Shit was cash.

Problem is that there was just so much wrong with the entire movie otherwise that you can't pin individual parts down, it was just all bad and in dire need of a lot of revisions. What about Superman's father coming back from the dead as a hologram thing? Or his earthly father just dying for the sake of giving him a thing to be sad about? Or Lois Lane being an object to progress the plot instead of a character? Or Zod suddenly getting and perfecting superpowers in one minute where it took Superman his entire adolescence? Or Superman hardly speaking at all?

Again, the action was a good half hour or more of eyecandy, but the story is trying so hard and it's constantly screwing it up.

The fight scenes were awesome, and Superman has barely ever been good in a narrative, or character sense.

So, that's about it. If the fight scenes weren't there and I didn't dig the villain chick so much, the movie would be boring as nails, and even dumber then it already was. Which was pretty dumb.

Still, those fight scenes were awesome. One of the best representation of a super powered fight i've seen in a while. And they weren't nearly as super stupid as the ones in every DC animated one.
