I've heard a lot of good things about both games, and a few bad things as well *cough*ZP*cough*. However, I'm definitely interested enough to get one of the games...but since I've heard it's pretty much the same game with two different level sets, which should I get?

Now, I'm not going to actually buy it until I've finished a few games in my current backlog. Also, it's not that I can only afford one. I just don't like to buy two versions of what's essentially the same game (hence why I didn't buy Pokemon Platinum.) I'd like to know your opinions.

Also, just a note: As far as consoles go, I only have a Wii, so if you pick option number 4, don't tell me 'Fable 3' or something like that.
~~~~~~
Edit: I just checked my local retailer's website. They both cost $100 new. A hundred dollars for a three-year-old game. Heck, when I brought Twilight Princess in 2009, it only cost $75 without both discounts!
~~~~~~
Edit: Yes, I know that Yahtzee mostly just hates on games for humour value, or simply because he doesn't like over-milked franchises. You don't need to remind me. Heck, I thought Super Smash Bros. Brawl was an awesome game, and I wasn't offended at all by his review!

Buy Super Mario Galaxy and Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and you should be good to go.

If you go with MG2 you get 242 unique stars as opposed to MG1 where it is 120 done twice over.
Do you mean doing them all again with Luigi? Yeah, I guess that is just 'padding'.

Littleman64 said:
Honestly do both because once you finish the first games 120 and the second games first 120, you will be ready for the second games next 122 stars. They are damn hard!
Yeah, no. I don't really feel like spending 200 dollars on two games. Thanks for the tip, though.

Galaxy 2 builds on the first one. It's an improved version, and it's not like you need to worry about the story. Go with it. Both are loads of fun, though.

As someone who has both I'd say SMG2, there's more stars and some more variety and challenge. I'd say you should ignore Yahtzee when it comes to SMG2, don't get why he's hating on more of a fantastic thing.

Honestly I thought the first one was much better then the second. It might just be a slight bit of nostalgia though, I'll have to go back and play the first one through again but I'm pretty sure it's the better one.

You know, Yahtzee comes off as being rather bipolar about SMG2...

On the one hand, he had nothing but complaints about it in his video. (and articles.)

On the other, it's apparently on his list of games that's good enough to want to find some time to finish playing.

I suspect, Ironically, that he actually likes it. (Not that that negates his complaints. Just that when all is said and done, he'd still play it.)

I doubt I would go that far, but somehow, the second does feel a little empty somehow.
I guess it's too much like the first game, that all the wonder of it has kind of gone?

(Well, Rosalina not really being in it doesn't help. XD - Those stories she told the lumas were actually kind of cute.)

Yahtzee didn't say that MG2 was a bad game. He even admitted that the game was fun. He just didn't like it because it was just an expansion that added nothing new to the mix.

I feel that Mario Galaxy 2 is inferior to Mario Galaxy, personally. It's considerably less epic and a lot more unfocused storywise. In the first Mario Galaxy you're working towards a goal which was fixing up the observatory and beating Bowser(again). In the second Mario Galaxy it's made out as if Mario Galaxy 1 never happened and Bowser invades again so Mario kind of just screws around collecting stars and aimlessly travels to other galaxies, destroying Bowser's bases along the way. Mario Galaxy 2 is no doubt a fun game that further explores the whole space concept but they could have come up with a more convincing reason for making it.

It makes sense that the second game ignores the first when you remember that the universe was destroyed and remade at the end. Plus, Mario games have never been about the story, anything semblance of one is usually meant to vaguely justify what you're doing.

Anyway, I consider the second to be the superior game. Great levels, better music (Everything from the first, + more!), and a great challenge. I will admit, however, it doesn't have much reason for existing.

They're both really good. Very similar, but SMG 2 is slightly better as it has more features and shit.
