Also, as an aside to the idea of people being lucky to not be born in the USA, I consider myself extremely lucky to be born in the USA. I encourage anyone who really does hate it here to apply for permanent residency it the country of thier choice.

But in all honesty, that's the only other place I'd like to be right now. So in hindsight (as the thread maker), I guess I am pretty lucky to born here given all the other places I could have been born.

How about instead of "thought of as a sister" it's "thought of as a non relative that they have a really close relationship and been through everything together"?

It seems to be a common phrase "I think of you like a brother/sister" but "like" a brother or sister doesn't make them one, it just means your really close.

So long as you aren't related by blood (nobody say if you go back far enough were all related), were is the harm?

I say good luck to them, if they were lucky enough to find a relationship like that as kid then why not marry? You know your compatible and know each other really well.

Um... I agree Austria is awesome and all... but you've only posted 3 posts EVER, and you've spent all three on this thread quoting and saying the exact same thing each time. It depends on if the parties considered each other more good friends, and less brother and sister. If they grew up and were as brother and sister, it would be bordering incestuous, if they considered each other friends, or they became a step brother/sister at a later age it would be relatively normal.

This is ironic... I was just reading "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley and apparently the doctor "Frankenstein"'s mother picked up an orphan named Elizabeth. This Elizabeth and Frankenstein were to be married (even though they were together when they were kids) although the only reason they didn't is because Frankenstein (the doctor, not the monster) went and made a living monster and completely ignored Elizabeth's existence. Lol

Nah, I couldn't, too confusing. What if your Mum and step-Dad has more children, then you had children with Step-Sister. Way too confusing for me.

if she became my step sister in my mid to late teens, that would depend entirely on how our relationship develops

in the extremely rare occassion when i meet her BEFORE our parents get married, then i would have absolutly no problem with it

To each his own, I don't care, but it's not something I could do. I have a close friend (Who I grew up with) that I could never ever think of that way. So, I guess that's the closest I can think of for me in that situation...
