I've just now decided to start playing Mass Effect 1 again. I never did carry a character over into ME2, so I wanna do that to see how things changed from the pre-set options you get in ME2 if you don't continue a save game. Plus ME1 is still a very good game.

Problem is...I dunno what class to choose. I know for a fact I want biotics in my arsenal, since...well, they're awesome.

But I can't decide between Adept, Sentinel or Vanguard. Help me Escapist, you're my only hope.

Adept, yes you can only use pistols, but when you and (at least) one other biotic party member both use high level singularities in a battle, the enemy are completely crippled and its like shooting mechanical fish in a floating barrel.

Vanguard is one of the most balanced classes, and is still reasonably possible to get all of the biotics leveled-up... Sentinal and Adept may have some additional abilities, but they have the lowest HP of any class, and its impossible to level up that many skills.

I'd say Vanguard for Mass Effect 1. But that's only because I think the light armor in ME1 is kinda ugly. And well.. Shotgun.. Need I say more?

Vanguard can be a properly strong class, when played right :) I would deffo suggest you check it out, especially if you haven't tried it before.

Vanguard, if you know how to mesh together your Biotics and your weapons you can't be stopped.

Vanguard is good fun, lift+close range shotgun blast can send most enemies flying into space.

Vanguard.

Use biotics to keep them down, then pick them off with the pistol at long range or blow them away with the shotgun at short range.

Combine that with Wrex and Liara and the enemy will almost never get a shot off.

I JUST Finished the game with Sentinel. Trust me - get your powers up, and it is awesome.
But finding good pistols was a ***** :D

I tried all three, And Vanguard is the best. Definitely. Especially if you have assault rifle training top carry over from an old file. Shotguns are so overpowered by the end of the game, and if you buy the Spectre exclusive one, two shots can take down a Krogan in the last mission.

But when you get to the second game, switch to Adept.

I'd say Vanguard but I'm probably bias because I didn't play much of the other classes in ME1.

Throwing enemies around while blasting them with a shotgun is way too much fun.

And if you carry the Vanguard over to ME2 well... it can be a ridiculous learning curve to get the charging down, but if you manage it it is absolutely the most fun to play.

Mass Effect 1 is horribly imbalanced.
Classes in order descending order of effectiveness:
Soldier
Adept
Vanguard
Infiltrator
Engineer
Sentinel

I went Infilrator and still haven't played through as any other classes. I don't know why, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's because I suck with anything other than a sniper or pistol. >.>

vanguard > sentinel > adept.

although in ME1 i thought the soldier class was the most powerful of them all.

I found Vanguard to be pretty badass. You can use shotguns, assault rifles, pistols, and most biotics.

Vanguards are a good balance between combat and biotics. By that I mean, you can use a shotgun. However, I never found this to be as useless as it sounds. It was a good class for me. I never played as any of the others. I've only played Soldier, Infiltrator, and of course, Vanguard. I guess I just like being good at combat, since combat is important after all.

I would say that if you can take a vanguard with a specialization in assault rifles, that was what I did and it was super effective.
