Poll: Mass Effect 1 or 2?

ME2 is the better game. No longer do I have to watch the same 3 gestures when I talk to someone. The expressions were really bland in ME1 and the animation wasn't the best. And there were less people to shag. However, it's still quite a good game, with a fantastic story and great characters. I miss the Mako, too. Hell, the driving sections were actually really fun; I don't know why people hate on it so much. It's certainly better than just probing the planets for minerals (though the "Probing Uranus" joke was pretty funny).

1 by a mile. The combat was harder and more interesting, the customization was actually customization, instead of a meaningless illusion of choice with only one good option. The story was better, the narrative was better, and the enemies were more interesting. The powers were more unique and varied, and you actually had to think through combat, and not just automatically spam one power over and over, while shooting over and over. You had to weigh the damage of full auto not just against accuracy, but also against overheat time.

To summarize, ME1 was basically better than ME2 in every way(IMO).

ME1. Yeah, ME2 had better combat, but it's not because of the combat that I like Mass Effect. ME1 had better plot, less plot holes and better characters. Also, while ME1's inventory was absolute shit and the weapon choice system had zero depth, at least the weapon mods provided some variation. ME2, while being an RPG, had less choice in weapons than your standard shooter.

Characters? More and mostly better.

Not necessarily. ME2 had too many characters, and they never had a chance to flesh them out properly. This is a problem Bioware themselves acknowledged and decided to <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.283245-BioWare-Trims-Mass-Effect-3-Squad-to-Focus-on-Deeper-Relationships>trim down the squad number for ME3 for the sake of deeper and more interesting interactions.

The second, by a long-shot. The stats did not work in Mass Effect - the combat was always an obstacle just to get to the fun bit.

Mass Effect 2 could have done with better and bigger skill trees, but the system was still better.

But small, arbitrary skill increases are what make a great RPG.

I know that when I go into a battle, I want my gun to shoot bullets 1.87% more accurately, my armour also has the 2% extra damage resistance so I can take an extra half-bullet before I die.

I love them both dearly but I think 2 tops it by a few inches overall.

The squadmates are more numerous and more interesting, the combat was vastly improved with the classes all feeling unique lending to more playthroughs, added ammo clips made the combat actually tense and exciting, and the Harbinger with his Scion cronies were hard as what, giving me a real challenge the first game never provided, and I once did the whole Noveria walk on foot. (whew, that was a hell of a run-on)

While I feel in every category ME1 did some things better, overall, ME2 takes the top spot. Hopefully Bioware can identify what they over-cut from 2 to make 3 the best of all (I'm looking at you, number of powers, cooldowns and weapon modifications, a more personal and relatable villain)

I prefer number 2 - it just feels like a more solid game and has better pacing and difficulty curve then the first. Plus, most of the things implemented were what the fans of the series asked for anyway.

Mass Effect 1 because the story was better then ME 2's story. Mass Effect 2 did almost everything better, but the story was meh.

They're both amazing games, but I think I had more fun with number 2.

However, I find 1 to be the stronger game. Better RPG elements at the cost of a much worse inventory system, a better story, a better villain, and a better endgame sequence (in my opinion, since I hated the whole "Oh, you picked Miranda for this? Sucks for you, that's wrong, she dead, foo!" thing they had going on). But I enjoyed both games thoroughly, and would absolutely recommend both of them to anybody and everybody.

While I love Mass Effect 2 to death, I enjoyed the story and characters of Mass Effect 1 better. It also had better powers and side missions than ME2.

Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 1 was good but only just. The original was by far the worst game that Bioware has yet created that I have played (though still not bad, just not very good either). I wasn't expecting much with ME2, but I was happily blown away. After the two rather lackluster games in a row (Jade Empire, which while still pretty good, was not up to Bioware's usual standards, and ME1), ME2 was one of the games that rekindled my hope in Bioware. Yes, ME2 wasn't an RPG (in the same way that Bioshock, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., LoZ games, and Deus Ex were not exactly RPG's in my eyes), but it was a damn fine game all the same, and improved one the original in nearly every way. That is all I ask from a sequel (well, besides being good of course), and ME2 delivered that in spades.

Because its nice not having to melt your inventory into Omni-Gel every 15 minutes, I vote ME2.

I thought the characters were more interesting, the game seemed to flow rather than go-stop-go, and had more interesting places to go and better things to do rather than ransack Pirate Base #42.

Both are good games though.

I actually can't tell if that's sarcastic or not xD I think it is, but people can get real funny when it comes to Mass Effect's skill tree.

Mass effect 2. There was less glitches, you didn't have to go around planets that were copy pasted over and over again and didn't have to deal with the inventory screen, which in my opinion was pretty awful. Saying that I loved mass effect 1, but 2 was just better.

Loved Them Both, But Mass Effect 2 Took It Further, and Alot Fewer Glitches.
But Mass Effect 1 Was still a fucking great game, and i play two alot still, and I can't wait for the Third One

Story wise - Me 1
ME2's story was completely pointless when you think about it and did nothing other than make Bioware money. It was not needed in the grand scheme of things.

Combat - ME 1
Yeah, you read me right. Having ammo was a step backwards in this space world. Trying to make the combat more difficult is fine by me, but doing it while fucking with the canon of the game does not bode well for me. And I also had less movement and aiming glitches in ME 1 than ME 2.

Characters - ME 1
Nothing needs to be said here really, they're better written, spoken and more likable to boot.

I utterly adored the universe Mass Effect 1 created. It was bright, lively, vivid and fantastic in every way. Mass Effect 2 was an improvement in most areas, but it fell down a little bit for me in this area. Besides which, ME1's plot was good and focused as approached to ME2's rather lazy, "How are we going to stop them attacking us? I know, genocide!"

I loved both games, but ME1 is one of my all time favourites, because it really brought it's universe alive for me.

Off topic: What did ME2 actually achieve, in terms of plot? If you think about it, it was kind of just filler.

ME. It had better (ME2 had practically none) exploration and a far better plot. Also, ME2 rubbed me the wrong way. Instead of trying to fix things, they just cut them out. Mako? Gone with planet exploration. Elevators? Gone, replaced with static loading screens. Inventory system? Gone.
Edit: And how the fuck is finite ammo an improvement over infinite ammo?
