It's a good game.

And call it Mass Effect, that's what the game's called. We won't mistake it for Mass Effect 2 which we haven't played. And if you look at the box there is no number 1 in the title.

You don't say Rocky 1 or Die Hard 1 do you? No. Then don't do it for games.

I thought it was a fairly decent combat rpg and I liked being able to visit other planets and such in my ship. So I gotta say I liked it.

Fail.
Mass Effect was awesome. True, it had issues, but what game doesn't?

Everyone bitches about the rover side missions on the planets, but I liked them, personally.

Great game, story was really interesting and had interesting plot twists and decisions. Combat was slightly lacklustre, but considering it was more RPG focused anyway that wasn't really a problem. Also, the amount of customisation was good, but i still felt at times it was simply easier to resort to a pistol/shotgun and blast people in the face rather than bother with tech/biotics. Hopefully, ME2 will have more interesting and varied powers which really shine through in comparison to standard weaponry.

Care to explain some of the issues you had with it. Otherwise you'll get microsoft fanboys flaming you and sony fanboys flaming them, the ms fanboys will flame the sony fanboys right back and this thread will get locked.

Mass Effect is one of my all time favourite games. I'm a giant sci-fi nerd and I had a huge hard-on for Mass Effect ever since I saw the trailer. ME and the Orange box were the two main reasons I got a 360.

They need more balance in the characters though. Wrex, Garrus and Ashley were all badasses. Kaiden, Tali and Liara were all the intelligent sort. The charcters need more fleshing out and not just by going to talk to them on the ship. Make them all involved in the story more.
Hmm the only one who really wasn't involved in my story was Tali. Then again my characters ended up sleeping with Liana (well most of them actually lol or at least trying) and that added alot of character development to each one.

The first time I played it I wrote a review for a different site and scored it a 7.5. Since then I played through it 2 or 3 more times and would give it a 9 easy despite its flaws.

well the game had great visual style dialog storyline but it was hardly without its flaw just watch the video when starts talking about all the feed back that they wanted to clear up. also if have you watched the original mass effect trailer for the mass effect there loads stuff in there which was cut which now is in mass effect 2.

Well you do when theres multiple sequels. If there wasn't sequels theres no need for 1, but there is a sequel or multiple sequels you can add the 1.

Multiple sequels maybe. But 1? And even then I'd refer to it as:
"Rocky"
"Which one?"
"Rocky, the first one"

Instead of "Rocky 1".

If you hadn't noticed, I saw Rocky again last night.

No, it was great.

It did have a fair few bugs though, but it was nowhere near the catastrophic level of Far Cry 2 or GTA 4 (pc), not even an extremely annoying level like Fallout 3.

It also felt like an enormous amount of effort had gone into building the game and the universe. A sense that developers really have done the very best they can easily outmatches the annoyance caused by some dropped textures and two (I had two in total) crashes.

I personally thought mass effect was a great game, except for one major problem i had with it that stopped me from buying it, the combat system. To me, it seemed like an extremely retarded gears of war combat, I didnt like it at all. However, the story, rpg elements, and setup were top notch, just fix combat in 2 and I will get it this time around.

The only problem I had with it was the disapointing customization. That was the only broken mechanic for me. All they have to do for the second one is update the male face customization and I'll be happy.

Also it's favorate game. I could nitpick on things to improve [look above], but it's the most perfect game I've played yet.

[Edit] I saw it more as an RPG with shooter elements than the other way around, that's probably why I liked so much. Hell, I grew up on Pokemon and Turok.

Okay, this must be the most nitpicky statement I've ever heard. I'll do one too: Don't start any sentence with "and". ;)

It wasn't so much a let down, but it wasn't as good as it *could* have been, in my opinion.

The characters and story were great (though I felt the villains could have done with a bit more development; they weren't all that great), the combat was fun and tense at times but mostly was rather bland and unchallenging (I played it on Normal, by the way). I absolutely despised the vehicle levels which were all virtually identical and needlessly long.

It was a good game and all, but isn't nearly one of my favourites and I probably won't replay it.
