There really is no right answer in ME2. All the classes are fairly well balanced. Unlike in ME1 which you could have an easy ride with by just picking soldier and spamming Immunity.

Played Sentinel in both games, I couldn't pick between biotic/tech abilities. I'm glad I chose it, although to be honest it was more because I couldn't decide. It's a lot of fun because you get to use both tech and biotics so if you prefer a different way around combat then I think the Sentinel class would be good to try. A class I'd probably never consider for a game like Mass Effect 2 is the soldier class - when everyone else has lift and stuff, being a soldier is kind of boring. At least for me.

There's no soldier option. My favourite class by far, since biotic and tech abilities can be fulfilled by your squadmates, and aren't much fun to use yourself because of the charging times. You might as well take squadmates with good powers, since you can order them to use them whenever you want, and then go soldier for the killy killy goodness.

I enjoyed Infiltrator tbh and just did some research thing to nick a biotic ability. Also, I prefer using the through my squad mates, it's easy enough and just as satisfying.

Then again I'm the sniper type who enjoys stealth, so that's just me :)

gosh, on ME2, infiltrator is making Insanity so much easier on half the missions! the ones with mechs or geth are so much easier because of AI hacking. and the tactical cloak is great for falling back so you can hold your position against near-death scenarios. I've already beaten the game, so i get access to a squad member bonus power, and i usually use grunts fortification or legions sheild boost to recover my shields instantly when they get taken out or when i need extra time to change positions. and i get torn to shreds in close range on insanity anyways, so sniping and suprise headshots with tactical cloak can make short work of tough enemy barriers.
yada yada dyadyady ady asdyf yasdl;fasdfdsf asdfopanvopanasd im shutting up now.

It depends on what difficulty level you're playing on. For example, Adept is insanely fun on a lower difficulty but on higher settings you just end up spamming warp with the ocassional singularity for CC.

I'd say Sentinel was by far the most fun I had with the game and the class being a jack of all trades lets you deal with any situation.

A Sentinel with Heavy Warp/Overload and a good bonus defensive power like Geth Shields (Which when combined with power armor will make your shields stupidly overpowered) can take more damage then a Soldier can and will absolutely WRECK anything that comes it's way. Combine that with SMGs and bonus weapon of your choice (I picked Sniper Rifles) and the Sentinel is also the second highest ranged damage dealer behind only the Infiltrator. On normal difficulty one heavy warp will almost kill Harbinger.

SENTINEL

Because Tech armor is amaaaaaazing. Then you get one of those special bonus powers upgrade (Like Reave or Slam, mmmmm) And you're a tank....with psychic powers, that ruins shields.

I say stick with Vanguard. It's what I'm playing as.

Let's review:

Rapid-fire SMG for taking out shields and barriers fast? Check.

Heavy Pistol for taking out Armor? Check.

Incendiary Ammo for burning through armor? Check.

Shockwave for taking out those pesky Husks? Check.

Charge for the lulz? Check.

Shotgun for close range? Check.

Need I say more?

Vanguard. Although extremely hard at higher difficulty levels.

I especially love actions like:

BIOTIC CHARGE! SHOTGUN POWER! SHOTGUN POWER! POW!!!

Vanguard. Definitely vanguard. Infiltrators are fun too, but the vanguard is the best by far. Once you get really good at the charge ability, you'll be feeling amazing as you Nightcrawler around and blast dudes with your Krogan shotgun.

I love infiltrators becuase if you level them up far enough time basically stops for a bit when you look through your scope. that is just awesome I find, bit of a cheat though.

I'm currently playing my 7th playthrough with a male, renegade, soldier.

The best class in my opinion is Infiltrator because it provides damage, powers, and (if used correctly) the best defensive ability in the game, Tactical Cloak. It also is the most efficient at getting rid of armor which is almost always the most resilient defense on enemies that have armor.

100% agree, although I went vanguard playthrough 1 and adept playthrough 2(both games).i'd say adept was easier as they didnt have to get close to enemies to be effective, especially crucial in insanity mode :p

I'm giving soldier a miss. If I want that kind of gameplay [which I don't], I'll pick up Gears of Two and Lynch.

Should I play it on Veteran? Played with Normal difficulty so far, but I'd like to make this one last and give myself a challenge. Keep in mind that I'm fairly crap at games.
But it's not all about what you want right? That's why it's a poll. There are alot of us that would pick soldier anyway.
And no I'm not a 13year old trigger happy moron.

Wasn't implying that. And I left the soldier out of the poll because the thread is about the class I should play. Soldier is not among the classes I want to play as.

If you did Soldier in ME1 you should go with Vanguard in part 2; like I did. It's like soldier+ in ME2. The only thing you loose is the sniper weapon, and what you gain in the form of you biotics is awesome. The class and the addition of the new biotics are different obviously, but the tactics you need to use are still about the same which helps to makes your Shepard feel like the same person from the first when you import him. Two tips: 1) get and learn Reave asap & 2) make Shepard an ultimate Renagade (but not a douche!). -fun!

I've played as a Vanguard only. Biotic charge is too fun--one can easily charge oneself into encirclement b/c of the sheer joy of it; it's tactical possibilities are more limited than the other special powers. And, OT, but learning how to bend your biotics makes them much more useful than in ME1. I agree with the many other posters about how balanced the classes and allies are in ME2, it's very easily to play however you wish to play and be successful.

if you go as adept (WHICH YOU SHOULD!) you'll notice every ***** about being a boitic abit more which makes it just funnny...
anyway, yeah, biotic powers are just massive piles of fun and you'll find youself pretending to be a jedi and also making sound effects...
solider on ME2 is actually alot more fun that the first game as well btw.
