They don't say what the DLC is so it is entirely possible that it is just a reward for people who bought the figurines so you can wear a certain outfit or something. Everyone is treating it as if you need to buy the figurines of the game won't let you beat the Reapers when nothing has been specified.

But hey, a high post count must make you cool right?
Me and my 45th post since 10 Sep 2007 make me the coolest then? This kind of thing actually does just get my goat. Especially from EA Bioware given that they weekly manage to find a new way for me to not like their online services which will be required for games I would've liked to play. And all they seem to want to talk about is how many other ways their going to monetize it up.

Is the DLC something crucial for the story? Stuff like "Stolen Memories" was in a sense, non essential.
The reason DLC will attract hatred from me is if it is:
a) Day one.
b) A really terrible value in content / cost as compared to a basically arbitrary and personal estimate of average retail games per dollar.
c) Actual game obviously must not be free itself.

So in this case, you have a small amount of digital content relative to a full game for, what, 1/3rd the cost of full retail price? Announced now. Before the game is out. Eyup. I'm gunna be a hatin' it. Not buying it isn't going to make me not hate that it is a thing which exists related to something I do want to buy.

How are we certain that they aren't talking about DLC in the multiplayer sense - not to the single player? I'm not going to even touch the multiplayer because I like Mass Effect as a single player story, so if they want to do this to the multiplayer DLC, then fine by me. If they do this for the single player DLC also, they better make them available for consoles and PC also.

Multiplayer DLC? What? I don't think their MP offering is good enough to warrant people paying for unlockables that only affect MP.

For fucks sake, by the time they done attaching dlc to everything is there going to anything left in the standard game? I wonder what the selection of armour and weapons is actually going to be like.

Okay it's final. I am NOT buying Mass Effect 3. Fuck Bioware.
you do realize that it's not bioware that's doing this right? It's EA, you know the people that handle the financing, PR (good or bad) advertisement and promotions. If you want to be pissed at someone be pissed at them it's EA that does this, Bioware are only the devs.

Seems like a bad move on their part. Nice idea to try and sell merchandise but figurines and games are kind of in somewhat divergent groups. How many gamers are willing to buy figurines? If its not much then their DLC is kind of going to go nowhere.

Is this DLC going to be available sans figurines? It all sounds pretty stupid to me.
Of course not, how else are they gonna push their overpriced figurines. Or, if it is, it'll cost as much as the figurines do anyway.

I'd say that's even worse... if the stuff adds more than cosmetics, suddenly it becomes a pay-to-win thing for the multiplayer.

I was worried about the way ME3 would turn out and I have to say that this sort of thing does not increase my confidence. I might have to move ME3 off my Buy at Launch list and on to my Wait for Price Drop list.

I'm gonna say what I said with regards to the art book containing DLC: It all comes down to how you look at it. If you look at it as "I have to buy a figurine just to get DLC" then you're gonna hate the idea. If you look at it as "This is a cool figurine, and I get free DLC when I buy it" you're gonna like the idea a lot more.

The other key point is that nowhere does the article state that this DLC is only available with the figurines. I'm sure that they'll be available on Xbox Live and Origin when the game is available, but this is just a nice way to save the die-hard Mass Effect fans a little cash as a way of saying thanks for being a loyal customer.

Not quite seeing the cause of all the whining here.

I mean sure, the figurines look like overpriced crap. I certainly wouldn't buy them. (Besides, they're bloody figurines, we grew out of that stuff at age 11.)

But I don't see how this sends people into fits of nerd rage over the game... unless of course you're driven frantic by the thought of not having access to every weapon or alternate costume or whatnot...

I've said it before and I'm saying it again: Bioware, please stop doing things that make me hate you. I really don't want to, all I want to do is give you my money. Why do you have to make that so hard?

Why?

Yes, Europe DOES reside in the SOL star system. Why would you bring that u- Oh. Shit outta luck, I get it.

Is anyone else suddenly extremely worried that we live in a star system whose name is an abbreviation for "Shit Outta Luck"?

You think this is a big scam?, I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned this [http://www.amazon.com/Skylanders-Spyros-Adventure-Starter-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B004VQENY8] yet and that's coming from a company even more evil-ish than EA.

Seriously though, I don't care what they do to cash cow their "fans" as long as it's not essential for the story, heck, I'm surprised that Miscrosoft hasn't come up with something similar for selling toys of Halo and Gears of War, belive me, those things sell like hot cakes.

I still stand firm on my decision to boycott EA.

Okay, the one thing I don't know if anyone here understands is that the DLC (from what I have heard) is multiplayer only, like a skin or something. Sort of like the items you could get for your armor by using codes off of Dr. Pepper bottles with ME2. It had no tangible part to the plot whatsoever, and the items weren't even all that good, easily overshadowed by normal content items. Technically they were DLC, but sort of in the same way you could call DLC an expansion pack.

edit: spell check..

Isn't the multiplayer coop? As in, not competing directly with other people?

One thing I've never really understood about that argument.. Does this mean that when you buy a game you expect every single spinoff novel that has anything to do with the story? I mean, that is related to content you are buying, and hell, likely has more canonical impact than most DLC, yet I doubt you really care about it all that much.

I mean no offence by this, but I don't see where everyone feels so entitled to content.

Okay, calm, everyone, calm. I am pretty sure that this DLC is just extra skins, weapons, and such for multiplayer- the art book DLC pretty much confirmed that. If you don't care about that, then just don't buy the figurines. They are not holding anything of true value to the game back from you. You will have a lovely time in Mass Effect 3 and get the full experience regardless of some figurine.

And the figurines are physical things. The DLC will just be a little code on the bottom or something. You're buying a figurine that just so happens to come with DLC. Woo. If you don't want that, don't bother.

Just. Calm. Please. So much Mass Effect 3 whining... Can this game just come out already so it can stop?
