Poll: Mass Effect 3 doomed?

Oh joy of joys, as if the other thread of endless bitching and baseless speculation wasn't enough. I would like to know where the hell people are getting the whole "EA is making it Call of Duty!" idea from. It is a vague statement taken out of context(and made to investors I might add), that you could take to mean just about anything. Why don't we wait until we have more than a teaser and a few screen shots, before we start shouting that the sky is falling.

Definately a wait and see approach from me. So far, I haven't seen anything that makes me think I should be concerned. This was aimed at investors, who aren't going to want to hear anything that doesn't involve more chance of money.

Then again, just look at how DA2 went.

I doubt EA will change anything major, it'll likely just be gameplay. Which, to me, doesn't mean anything. I was bored by both ME's gameplay, it just felt like a chore more then anything else. If you really care about an "Epic ending", then you shouldn't worry much.

I don't mind the game being pushed back if it helps improve it. To make it appeal to a broader audience though? Forget that and just give the fans the game in December. Also I don't see how this can be good for the game but I'm still optimistic ... pretty sure the story is close to sorted seeing as actors are already recording lines etc. Unless they suddenly cut out lots of conversation because they think the "broader audience" will get bored I doubt it'll have a huge negative effect on the game as a whole. Too early to tell anyway.

I don't blame this on EA at all, but I am concerned about the "making it for a wider audience" business. You don't start a fracking trilogy at the final game >.<

The only real disappointing part of ME2 for me was, while it gave a small nod to your actions in the past, that is all it did. There were a few throwaway dialog options or references, and that was the long and short of it. I figured eh, that's cool, they're saving up the cool shit and the reactivity for the third game, letting people start off in the mid-way isn't TOO bad.. but if the third game is exactly the same, with only minor references and tiny changes to the game based off of your actions, it will only be good instead of the masterpiece it deserves to be.

But that's just my .02 dollars.

Cautiously optimistic I would say, I definitely hate it when they say they are making the game for a wider audience as every single time it means they are "simplifying" the game for just so idiots will buy it. I have taken their words as a negative and that will stand until the game is released.

I have yet to play a bioware game I didn't love.
EA didn't ruin DA2, so I see no reason to believe they will manage to ruin ME3.

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean it was bad and that everyone should hate it. I couldn't care less what the popular opinion is, I enjoyed Dragon Age 2.

If it is just the gameplay that is changed, then i see no reason to be overly anxious about the end result. As Yhatzee put it, it is a given these days that Bioware games have good writing, so the storyline should not be affected by any changes that are made. Personaly i had no problem with the ME2 coverbased combat system, or its thermal clip system. I was even ok with its dumbed down RPG elements, not happy about them, but i could live with them because at the end of the day, i play it for its amazing storyline. I doubt EA would be arogant enough to think changing the gameplay formulae drasticaly, would net them more fans. A few tweaks are probably in line with giving different ammo options for different guns instead of the universal thermal clips, and other things to that effect.

However, if worst comes to worst, and it ends up being more in line with an FPS or TPS, then its not the end of the world. Halo did not have great gameplay but people stuck around for the story, and if theres one thing Bioware can deliver, its story. No need to worry i don't think .

I think writing it off as shit because they want it to appeal to a larger audience is simply ridiculous. And it will still have the characters and the story going for it. It may be more shooter than RPG, but if I want strict RPG, I'll go play some fucking D&D.

I personally think it will be great, like the last two. Not great as an RPG, but great as a game altogether.

Am i the only who reads this statement as "EA told us to do this or we get the whip again"

Honestly I'm now convinced EA is going to make bioware turn ME3 into "Mass Effect: Future warfare" and it will lose any chance of being the epic ending fans have been waiting years for.

Can we wait till something is actually worth commenting on? A gameplay video or something? And put down the cyanide capsule.

Because we are gamers and are obligated by reality to constantly be complaining about something, apparently.

This can't be good. I'm guessing that probably means one or more of the above, hopefully it's just a) and d):

a) They took out all potential for homosexual/lesbian relationships. Stupid to bend to society's irrational squeamishness but hardly a game ruiner.
b) They added a multiplayer. I always thought ME could make a good multiplayer, but I personally hope they don't as it would take focus away from the story.
c) They took out a lot of dialog to make room for more action. Now THAT would be a game ruiner and a true worst case scenario for fans of the series.
d) They made manShep's arms and femShep's boobs bigger. I personally hope it's just something stupid like that.

That, at least, is one worry you can put to bed. Bioware has already stated that your actions could only have a relatively minor impact because they needed everyone to finish in a vaguely similar place for ME3. If they are to be believed (and why not?), from here on the story will begin to diverge quite wildly.

As an aside, it's interesting to note that people are saying that ME3 going to suffer the same fate DA2. While I did like DA2, I understand that many people didn't and a large part of this dislike is due to a certain lack polish in the game. EA's decision to delay the release of ME3 does mean that it will get those extra layers of polish.

Agreed the plot is where most of my concern lies. There are a lot of variables that BioWare has to account for. I'm wondering how they're going to handle things like

how all your team mates in Mass Effect 2 are killable, the genophage cure, the heretics, status of the council and the Rachni

. I'm trying to not get my expectations too high in that regard.
