Wait, is this actually wrong? You buy the game new and to avoid Origin, you download a crack to play it. EA gets its money and the purchaser doesn't have privacy invaded. They won't be able to play the multiplayer, but who the hell cares about that on a Mass Effect game. This sounds like a good plan to me.

I may have to do this or suck it up and take one for the team and ...gag...download Origin. Honestly I'm torn on which course to take.

The main thing I'm concerned about is EA keeping the price ridiculously high for way too long.

Really, in my humble gaming opinion, if your using a PC to play anything other than a massive RTS (like the Total War series or *shudder and gag* Starcraft)or an MMO than your wasting your time. PC gaming in general is dead its much better to play on a console. Hell half the time people play PC's with console style controllers so why not cut out the middle man and save yourself a whole lot of time, money, and grief.

Those that have PS3's might slightly disagree but 360 owners know what im talking about.



Also ME3 looks to be one of the best games of this generation, now add to that the fact that it will end different ways depending on how you played ME1 and 2, and you open up a host of replay possibilites for all three games.

You see, this is why I love consoles so much. I can walk into the shop, legally buy a brand new copy of Mass Effect 3, pop it in my Xbox 360 and play.

No DRM to check that I'm not breaking the law
No additional software to download that'll spy on me

What's the difference between that and Steam? It seems to be the same thing. Why should I give a shit that it runs on Origin?

EDIT: Only a retard would let something as trivial as Origin get in the way of buying a game, especially one as good as Mass Effect.

Given they updated the EULA to be no more "threatening" than any other EULA I've signed, I have no objections to Origin. Mass Effect 3 is still a day one purchase for me.

While the wording on collecting information about a user's computer, operating system, software, and software usage remains mostly intact, another clause from the agreement no longer appears. That now-omitted line originally stated, "EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you." In fact, the new EULA makes no mention of marketing at all.

The third section in the EULA, "Application communications and conduct/privacy settings," has also changed considerably. It no longer includes wording that "EA reserves the right to monitor communications on the Application and disclose any information EA deems necessary," nor does it specify that if users don't agree to EA's collection, they shouldn't install the application.

Perhaps you should paste all the above information in the OP to ensure that everyone voting is fully informed rather than reacting to outdated sensationalism. Also, fix your poll to remove the bias.

Considering I'm playing it on the 360, no it doesn't effect my desire to buy the game.

Also a word of advice about making polls; don't make them heavily biased. They are supposed to be neutral.

The direction BioWare taking with Mass Effect is much more bothersome though. Turning cult-status roleplaying game into on-rail shooter with weapon upgrades and dialogues (same as Dragon Age 2 turned into button-mashing beat-em-up... with dialogues) is rather sad and no amount of hype will make me pre-order it. Picking it up for 20$ on sale will be more reasonable in my opinion.

Erm...I don't think you could call "Mass Effect" cult status. Cult status games don't gut Expanded Universe books. Or movie adaptations. And the second game was an on-rail shooter? Do many on-rail shooters have different paths you can take, numerous sidequests, and an ending that can have anywhere from 0 to 12 people dying?

On-topic, I play on the 360, so this wouldn't affect me anyways. However, Origin is not the devil, EA is not the devil, and that poll is extremely biased. I mean, why make a poll if you basically say that one answer is the wrong choice?

Honestly, why should I care? After the EULA amendments, Origin is no more Dangerous than Steam, which I have on my PC too. So... Will I care? No. Will I get a lot of games that look like fun? Yes. Simple as that.

If he pays for it, then why shouldn't he be able to do that! I hate pirates more then I hate Orgin but I don't see what's wrong with downloading the crack to a game you bought!

After some perusing of the ME3 website, it appears that ME3 will be using Origin on the PC version, so for those who were/are planning to get ME3 will this affect your decision?

If it does appear to, then yes I won't be getting it.

I haven't seen anything about it being Origin exclusive. Are you sure you're not confusing it with the special edition you can only get through Origin?

Anywhere, if I need Origin to play Mass Effect 3, then I'm going to install Origin. It doesn't seem as evil as everyone is making it out to be. They changed the part where you agree to give them the right to collect information from your computer.

Since both Steam and the NSI probably know everything I ever do already, Origin just seems to be another case of 'Do not resist, you cannot win'. I'll wait till I read user reviews, and then join the hive mind, and install big brother on my PC. If I don't like it I can always throw the computer away and live without it.

Because I hate console controls and find them absolute shit?
PC is far more Precise, has enough hotkeys for everything I need, and is ahead in hardware by over 10X. Why would you use a console that is worse than the computer I got 6 years ago for $400?

PC gaming is not dead, we have RTSs and MMOs, but we are still king of the First Person Shooter. Say what you like, the PC is the better platform to play them on, as shown by studies by Microsoft, testing Console players vs PC players to see if cross-platform gaming was Viable. It wasn't, the PC players devastated the console players every round. The mouse was too precise compared to the thumbstick, and instead of having to use menus, PC players could use hotkeys.

PCs have modding capabilities, adding years to the lifespan of a game, as well as the biggest Indie scene, providing thousands of cheap games that are entertaining.

The Best part? PCs are cheaper to maintain than consoles. The initial price can be a little bit more, but over time, the PC ages brilliantly. A 6 year old computer can run Crysis on Maximum settings without a problem. In addition, its only a matter of swapping out a couple of parts if you ever want to upgrade, and selling off your old ones. Games for the PC are cheaper, and in addition to a gaming machine, you are getting a social networking, research, web browsing, document creating, work machine as well.

Whilst much of the market is in consoles, the PC has never even come close to dying. If you think it has, try telling that to Blizzard, DICE, Mojang, or any modder/indie developer. I'll ask you a question: How many people have a PC in their house? How many have a console?

Now, with that said, sorry for helping to take this off topic.

Not just EA. I've wanted to play Starcraft 2, but it is still 60 Bucks a year later. But I get what you mean with their high prices.
