I am replaying the Mass Effects and I just got to Tali's Loyalty mission, and I was thinking 'Hmmm should the Quarians go to war with the geth or not? I mean I want to get Tali her homeworld back (yes I am romanceing her; she reminds me of my girlfriend) but I don't want them to die...' so I ask you Escapist fourms; Should they go to war with the geth or not?

The Quarians wouldn't stand a chance.

I'd have to say no anyways, the Geth just want to live, same as any other species. They are just as entitled to the homeworld as the Quarians.

Look at the scenario, race creates robots who gain sentience and revolt. The organic race is in a fleet of ships running from the robtos, looking for a way to fight them and find a new home. Its Battlestar Galactica, have them make piece share tech, work together, do the whole star trek thing where you get rid of the guys trying to oppose the alliance and your set.

You don't know what it's like to have to live in a suit your whole life. We must reclaim our planet, war seems most likely; but if anyone can negotiate peace, it would be Shepard.
I begrudgingly accept that peace is the most preferable option, only if it means that we avoid the unnecessary loss of our people.

Seriously, regardless of where your emotions lie with Tali, or your fondness of the Geth, I think it should be clear that the best option for both of them at this point (or sometime very, very soon) is to just suck it up and make peace.

If we learned anything from Legion, then the geth are at least willing to consider peace. And unless the Quarian scout fleets sent out to find a new world in uncharted territories come back very soon with really damn good news, the Quarians don't have a better choice for the survival of their species than to make peace with the geth and try to work out a deal for their settlement of a new homeworld.

They are obviously going to need Shepard to guide them one way or the other though, because some of the Quarians have their heads shoved too far up their asses to see what is best for everyone in the long run. That, and they lack the knowledge Shepard has of various key factors, the Reapers being one of them.

No point in going to war with the geth at this stage. They've already been beaten down pretty severely once, and the geth don't seem to be going anywhere. The Reapers would just wipe out the diminished Quarian fleet anyway. And if Legion proves anything, it's that the geth can prove to be useful allies. The galaxy is going to need every scrap of strength it has in order to survive Mass Effect 3.

I say go to war it's they're homeworld. The geth are machines destroy all of them then build new one's.

If they do go to war, you're going to end up with the quarians largely wiped out, most likely and...

You'll also be wiping out the good geth like Legion who are just as opposed to the reapers as everyone else, meaning you're going to lose two allies in the war, most likely. It's also pointless since the geth aren't living on the quarian homeworld and don't wish to keep it.

But, basically, tell them to go to war if you're a renegade and tell them to make peace if you're a paragon. Can you tell I'm always a paragon? =P

No it would fuck up the Quarian fleet and to a lesser extent the Geth fleet so the Reapers can just trolololol over them, and y'know the quarians and the geth are my two most favourite races... I'm just waiting for the inevitable time when i don't have enough persuade to stop them battling it out and have to pick a side :(

OH HAI TALI.

Actually, This is already half-solved if Legon surviving is canon (IE you did his loyalty mission), because the raticals will be wiped away.

Now all they need is someone to dump points into pursuade and send them off to the geth, with some flowers and EMPs for good mesure.

Not entirely sure what the Quarians would have to gain from war with the Geth beyond extinction. War didn't go so well for them last time when they had their own planet/s of resources to base themselves on. Now the Geth have all of that in addition to evidently being superior combatants (or they'd not have won when the quarians were in the advantaged position) Besides, ethically it's shaky. They were assholes to the Geth and the Geth fucked them up. They've got no moral high ground.

Ah but what do the Geth need one for? They are machines, they don't even use windows even in space...and space is AWESOME. (oh by the way I personally think that they should wait the Reaper attack out and go from there figuring things out)

If we're roleplaying that you're Tali, then it's kind of weird how many guys name Shepard have slept with you here...

On topic: the Quarians shouldn't go to war, at least not without allies (and they don't have allies other than Shepard). I'm not so sympathetic to the Geth. Issues with AI becoming more and more advanced over time aside, I just don't know that they can be trusted even with the knowledge Legion has provided. But the Quarians themselves would risk being wiped out if they lose and maybe also even if they win. The loss of ships and supplies would cripple them, the loss of lives due both in battle and due to infection would be catastrophic. Even if they retook their homeworld they would have to readjust (being at home doesn't mean they can leave their suits). They should work on diplomatic relations with other races and try to find another world they can live on.

The geth don't actually live on the world though, only keep it tidy.
