Well I was just thinking about games series that have never gotten the full recognition they deserve and Max Payne was the most prominent in my mind. The original game still ranks among my favourite games of all time, with it dark, gritty and hugely atmospheric storyline, coupled with its memorable piano theme gave the game this dark shine that I loved. The sequeal was good and would have made a fitting ending to the series.

Since then the series was rather diminished by a Marky-mark Wahlberg performance as the titular character, and now the upcoming sequal features new developers, writers and max payne now looks like Jeff Bridges out of Iron Man.

So basically I wanted to know if anyone still cares about Max Payne as a series or not.

I never played any of the other games, so I probably won't play this one unless it get good ratings.

I'll pick this up if I've got the spondoolicks for it when it comes out. I, too, bemoan the fact that it's such a niche series. Who the hell doesn't find bullet-time gunfights appealing?

The other two set a new benchmark in action games. If this can live up to half of that, it will still be a good game.

Well, we sure are a diverse bunch.

OT: Never tried the first two, so I don't really care.

I never played any of the games and were it not for Mila Kunis I would have lost interest in the movie. However I am not biased, I would gladly play the next game provided I didn't need past experiance to understand the plot but hell if it gets good reviews it might encourage me to give it a try anyway.

The first two were awesome, so it has a lot to live up to. So I care, and I want it to be good.

I own 1 and 2 and I've only gotten to the second act in 1 and never even started 2. I might pick it back up for the third one, though.

Well theres basically no info on it yet. Besides the few pictures and one or two interviews we know next to nothing about the game. I expect the hype train to rev up to full speed when the game gets closer to being finished.

I thought that the first one was the best and had no need for a sequel. I tried Max Payne 2 and found myself pretty much playing the same game, but with slightly better writing, meaning that the genericness of videogame heroes which is expected by 3D realms was destroyed by Rockstar. They took max payne freash from 3D realms (Whop weren't 100% with it anyway) and copied them and made improvements that were bad.

Oh and now I have to put up with a guy who has taken a massive fall and so must look like the worlds most heavily armed hobo and all the Film Noir City Sections are replaced by areas that are all the rage nowadays. South america, everyone is going there! From Call of Duty (MW2) to Mercanaries!

I'm a fanboy, so I'm going to get it. Though it wont get near the two that came before. The biggest mistakes they can do are to remove the piano theme, change Max's voice actor and that comic style story telling.

Much as I disagree, you have quite possibly the best avatar ever, so nothing you say can ever be wrong. Good job.

Why bald god damnit.

WHY?
Because his father and his father's father were bald too? He has the baldness-gene. Nothing fancy about it.

Well at the moment, it's only just on the horizon of the gaming calendar, I'll be more interested when it's nearer.

MP1 was a classic, if dated by today's standards.

Max 2 was a revolution in in-game storytelling, to my memory it was the first with a human story that was truly gripping. There were plenty before with gripping stories, but MP2 was the first where I found myself involved in the human element of that story as much as the plot itself.

Do I care about MP3... hell yes.

Played the first one, didn't play the second and didn't feel like it. The movie was terrible.

So, no, I'm not a great fan,

You'll enjoy The Longest Journey. It's much older than any MP game and the human element of the story is more important (you know, character development, introspection, evolution)
