It may just be me, but after playing a bit on all of the consoles, I'm just thinking that this generation so far, has been very sub-par compared to previous ones. From all the varieties of games there are for each of the consoles, I can only really name a few above average/long lasting titles (Mass Effect, MGS4, SMG, etc.). From how I see it, both Xbox360 and PS3 have been trying to one-up each other in the graphics department, but never really releasing that much gameplay wise, other than really pretty games, while the Wii has been focusing mainly on the casual gamer demographic while releasing a few of their franchise titles in between.

I find myself prefering the last generation overall, seeing how am mostly going back and playing my PS2 and Gamecube, other than my PC nowadays.

I dunno, what do you people thing? =/

Note:The generations maybe not be exactly organized like that normally, but I found it easier to group together this way...

Wow... To join the parade of PC gamers...

I love my 360 and PS3, but my laptop stands the test of time as it plays everything up the latest GameCube emulator (still own the hard copies/consoles, this isn't piracy - just like being able to take it to class), as well as all my Steam-purchased games. It just has more versatility, I guess.

I prefer the PS2 era, myself. Although I love my 360, I've recently ploughed more hours into the PS2 then 360.

I find consoles in general go through fads... which is bad as it's appeal is only strong as long as the fad is strong. I suppose it can be said that there are fewer classics been made. I think every game i've played in the last year has been rehashes/sequels/blatant rip offs of games i played years ago, and the addition of quick time events or vehicle sections or intense multiplayer experiences doesn't justify the regurgitating nature of todays games.

They're not bad, it's just there's a "been there done that" vibe associated with most modern releases... of course thats probably because there are so many games out there that originality is much harder to produce.

Gaming has never really relied on originality. They take 1 idea clone it to death until the next idea comes along. Then it is just rinse and repeat. Just look at Mario and Alex the Kidd. Or Pong, Space Invaders and the list goes on and on.
