Messiah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messiah_(video_game)): released in 2000, there were quite some high expectations for it. & the end result is that the game was actually nice, but unpolished & a tangle of bugs.
The game revolved around a cherub, you, sent by God to clean up the corrupted Earth. Story aside, the gameplay involves Bob (the cherub) possessing a large variety of lifeforms, from simple rats to psychotic cyborgs, to help complete objectives, to hide, or to simply blow the brains/circuitry out of anything in his path. In other words, he possesses different creatures to gain their advantages, as well as their disadvantages, & complete objectives.
Prototype (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prototype_game): scheduled for release this year, there's currently mixed feelings in the general public about how this game will fare. It sounds pretty much like you play a more-human version of The Thing. The gameplay idea is interesting, if not badass, but will it be entertaining to the last moment?
Will they make it actually fun & empowering to consume & impersonate other people/creatures? Will they make it more than just a necessity? Will your being the superbad mean you can mow through enemies with ease, possibly making it boring, or will you face enemies that beat you relentlessly, making you feel weak?
Most importantly, will there be some over-sized colossus you can consume & become? Will there be those "hard to get" bonus bodies which when you DO consume, you get to do some wicked stuff (like Spiderman or a Jedi)? & Will it actually work properly?! When you have so many different bodies to choose from, how are you going to balance things like combat capabilities? & what kinds of numerous bugs are we possibly looking at?
I've rambled a bit about what I'm worried about, but at its core I wanted to ask what is in the poll above. If you want to go into details, be my guest. If you want to voice your own worries or reassurances, you're very welcome to do so.
