Both MGS 2 and 3 were on the PS2 yes. And if you want a ton of extra content, you should get Substance, and Subsistence for the respective games.

Playing MGS3 should be the first one you play. You'll understand the story a lot better. As said earlier, if you can get Subsistence, get it! Aside from becoming something of a collectors item, it has the original two games included (still super-pissed I managed to snap the second disc; bastard case). If still unsure then:

One of the the best bits of the game (for there are many).

it seems to be a resounding yes.
they're definately worth playing, but i would start with the first, it may seem slightly dated now, but the story is still brilliant. i still go back to it occasionaly for a playthrough and i suggest you do the same. if you have a gamecube you could get that version, just because it has better graphics. 2 and 3 are also worth getting, but the first is still the best in my opinion.

Wow, seems like I'll be getting them then. My friend has 2+3, so I'll stea- I mean borrow 3 off him first, then hunt down the original MGS afterwards.
Thanks for all the feedback :D

Very much yes. They're excellent. I personally haven't played the 4th, since I neither own a PS3 nor intend to buy one. I did watch a full playthrough of it on Youtube though, as I wanted to see how the story ended.

In a word. Yes.

Played them all, completed them all. Love them all. I've been playing them since MGS1 was released and I've completed them all numerous times. (Yes, I am a massive fan boy)

Absolutely. The first one may seem a little old, but the series in general is more than worth your time.

Don't listen to critics, MGS is worth getting, no matter what flaw they may come up with.
It's not flawless, but the potential for fun FAR outweighs it's flaws.

Don't be put off that Metal Gear Solid 1 may be slightly out of date now. I played it again a few weeks ago, it still is as awesome as it was when it first came out. Seriously, the Graphics may look old, but it doesn't affect the fantastic storyline and gameplay.

Definetly worth getting your hands on, the game ages like a fine wine imo :)

I despise the MGS series with a fervent hatred one knows but only once in a lifetime.
So I say no.

I still play the first one for the PS1 on my PS2, it's still good, even if they suffer from Young Bloods Disease.

Ooooooh. I'm a rather curious being, why is that? Could you sum it up?

What I've seen of them seems good, and everyone else seems to like them, but I'm worried that they won't stand up due to age.
Graphically 1 may not, but it is still brilliant and is well worth your time if you are not overly fussed on graphics.

Although for the PS1 it's graphics are astounding.

2 I am somewhat ambivalent about, it is by far the weakest Metal Gear Solid game. It rambles too much. Although if you can get the Substance re-release that is well worth it. The main game is unchanged but there's enough extra content and a bunch of Snake specific stories that are brilliant, there's also a really interesting documentary disc that comes with it.

MGS3 is a game you need in your life, no excuses.

The things that didn't quite work in 2 are refined to near perfection in 3, the gameplay is excellent, the story is excellent, the soundtrack is incredible. It's one of the best looking PS2 games released. It's also my favourite Metal Gear game, there are things in it that you will play through the entire game just to see again, it's that good.

I would have offered to post you MGS2: Substance and MGS3, but I already did give them to someone else, you shoulda posted three months ago!

I only played the first one, but I am pretty sure that they are worth getting. I almost bought 2 & 3 yesterday, but I sprang for Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter instead.

I think Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are still worth getting.

But the first one for Playstation is horribly dated, and might be wise to stay clear of.

Hell yes, those games are absolutely timeless.
Do them in order though, because if there's one thing that makes them inaccessible, it's the plot. Follow it from the start, and you should be okay.
