Metrosexual can apply to everyone. Gay men, chicks, even the little brother from Ugly Betty.
Its just that this gets stereotyped on gay guys.
no it's not, metrosexuals are straight guys, they just ACT in a way that is mostly attributed to gay men, ie they are slaves to fashion and use all these moisturizers and hair products and get manicures and such.

if you ever want a great example of it, watch/read American Psycho, Patrick Bateman is a metrosexual before they came about, his getting ready in the morning routine is total metrosexual
Then what do yo call gay metrosexuals?
There's no such thing as a gay metrosexual...

You're either Gay or Metrosexual, you cant be both.
EDIT: What do you call a gay man that takes part in "Metrosexual activities"?

Sorry, said the opposite thing there.
Lets put it this way: If you like having sex with people from your gender, then you are gay.

If you like that And your obsessive over your looks and your super-fabulous and stuff, then you are a stereotypical Gay person.

*Great examples of both these types can be seen in Will and Grace, where one is Gay and one is stereotypicly gay*

If you like acting like a stereotypical gay person but you dont like same-gender sex, then you are a metrosexual. *Just like most male popstars*

I wouldn't consider myself Metrosexual, but when I'm tring to impress a girl, which I am currently, I do pay attetion to what she likes in men's appearence, and try to make myself look better. So I picked sometimes.

I really like the part of the thread title where you ask if the reader is one. And by like, I mean I hate. People do not need this kind of categorising to make life and the world easier to handle, and it certainly does not condone discussion.
I could definitely not be placed under such a superfluous category, as I barely care at all how I look and consider most people that do, too much, to be shallow, vain and just plain silly. The lifestyle aspect is even sillier. Identities are not achieved by living by a set frame, and those that have not understood it lies within are just immature, most often because of age. *sigh*

Edit: I want to stress it does indeed categorise men who have a strong concern for their appearance and whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically attributed to gay men. The above poster certainly does not, by his tale, so I have a hard time finding a "Sometimes" to be justified.

I think its the conspiracy by women to turn the men of the world into wimpy, shopping bag carryin, prada wearing, emotionally weak, candy-ass pansies. Then when all men are subdued and no longer able to fight back, they will RISE UP!! And take over the world forcing us to work in their make-up mines!

All but a few men will be castrated, sex will cease to exist as these men will only be used to harvest sperm for artifical insemination! Soon all women on the planet's menstral cycles will scync together, and once a month 1,000 men will be sacrificed to appease the raging female society! GPS will cease to be because they will actually stop for directions! All will be frilly and Oprah will reign supreme over the Earth!! OHHH THE HUMANITY!!!!!

What the Hell? You do realise that that is just a steriotype!
Being gay means that you are sexually attracted to other men. Gay guys are not metrosexual by default.
Oh, and the suffix, "-sexual" is also in "Homosexual."

No. I try to take care of my appearance but not to the extent that those deemed "metrosexuals" do.

there are stereotypes for a good reason, there are a LOT of gay guys that are shopoholics and have to have the latest fashion, a disproportionate amount compared to straight men. the majority of straight men spend about 10 mins shopping for clothing, only lasts longer if there's a long line up at the cash.

People are not their sexual orientation. Some guys are metrosexual, some are not. Some guys are gay, some are not.
If the common denominator was race instead of being gay, I think people wouldn't say the same thing...

Metrosexual is the political correct term for either straight man acting like a gay man to compensate for something or a closeted homosexual man. I use skin moisturizers but I have a mono brow and don't follow fashion so I don't really meet the prerequisites for the title.

actually someone IS their sexual orientation, it's part of who and what you are. not every gay male acts like a queen/flamer but there's a lot of those fabulous males out there that do.

the thing about metrosexuals is that sexuality only comes into play because the ppl in question are all straight. you can't be gay and metrosexual, that's the whole point of the term.

Basically being a metrosexual means you are narcissistic, right?

It's just that using the word "narcissistic" doesn't cause as much of a clamor as using "metrosexual".

The whole "heterosexual male acting like a homosexual" is utter bullshit. Homosexuality is a sexual preference, not a way someone acts. All these fucking stereotypes...

Nah, I can't really say that I'm metrosexual. I do try to take moderate to good care of my appearance, especially if it will help when it comes to engaging in dialogue with the ladies. :p

I guess I'm just a good old fashioned heterosexual after all... Tis the only way to fly!

As an aside, there was a time when the Metro (those British people on the forum may recognise the name, being the free newspaper you get on the buses/trains/wherever that sometimes tries a little too hard to be all "relevant" and "trendy") frequently used the term "Metrosexual" to describe their desired reader base.

Metrosexuals being, by their definition, young, well-paid professionals (of either gender) living in or around the countries major cities. They eventually changed it for the term "Urbanites" though. Either way, sounds like the kind of person you would just have to twat the next time you pass them on the street...:)

EDIT: What I'm trying to say here is that gay men don't necesarily act like Metrosexual men in the same way that not all Lesbians act butch or all Hetrosexual men act tough. If you can have a Metrosexual man (straight man acting gay to be blunt) then you can have a gay man acting straight, to be blunt again. There is no such thing as black and white when it comes sexuality.
The way I see it is that sexual orientation is defined only by your sexual orientation. The people you are attracted has no real connection with your level of style or cleanliness. I.e not all gay men are exactly the same as those on 'Queer Eye For the Straight Guy' and have nice, clean homes with their 'keen sense for fashion' *sigh*. The only difference in a random gay man and straight man is that one is gay and one is straight.

Being metro sexual is being stereotypically gay in every way except sexual orientation

I care little about my appearance...that's probably why people give me money on the street...

...it might also be the cardboard sign and the aggressive begging...

I change my clothes once a week, my pants and socks about once a fortnight, scratch myself in public, squeeze any spots that appear on me, stick to wearing shirts and jeans, and my hair is growing so thick and wild it's starting to look like tentacles.

I'm attempting to define the term "antimetrosexual".
