I only got my 360 online recently. And i played tf2 everyday.
But then a month passed and my free online gold membership ran out . I was then asked to pay loads of money to activate it again. So, who thinks that microsoft are evil to ask for MORE money

Please tell me this is a joke thread...

Assuming it is not: Be grateful you got some time for free, if you were not aware that they charged yearly for Live before you bought then that's your problem not theirs.

I don't like paying the money (would anyone?) but I knew that it was there beforehand and it was my decision to play online so I put up with it.

it's 40 pound a year for what many people call the best online experience in this gen consoles. they also update it often so i'd happily pay £40 (or the $ equivilent).

I used to ask myself the same question, but then I read this article in game informer. Apparently, the reason we 360 owners have to pay in order to play online is so that independent game developers can afford to develop games with online capabilities. So in a way, by paying Microsoft, we're helping online games get better.

Yes, it's appalling when people make you pay for the services they provide, how dare they not give you even more things for free, especially when they've gone to all that trouble developing the hardware and software to bring you a decent gaming experience. The bastards.

[/sarcasm]

In short, what were you expecting?

Sorry? When a man asks for rent to those who live under his roof, is he no better than Hitler or is he just earning a living?

Every company is greedy. I don't care if it's the Mother Teresa company, they're all greedy.

From what I've heard, TF2 on PC is far better.

Also, I thought we had moved on from the whole "Microsoft is greedy" thing and were focusing on EA and Activision instead.

Of course it's going to cost you money. If you were running XBL, would you make it free? No.

Where is the "OP obviously doesn't understand anything about economics" option? Of course they're charging you to use xbox live... how could you not have known that they would? That said, I've always found it well worth the price. So if you decide to stop complaining about the fact that Microsoft wants to make money for the services they provide, then I highly suggest just biting the bullet and paying for live. If you've enjoyed it so much then it's probably worth it.

You know, I thought I was going to have to come in here and straighten the OP out, but I see you folks have it very, very well in hand. Carry on! :)

They say Live is better than any other service that is availible thats why. Also the sole reason they have a console is to kill the Playstation. If Sony were to say tomarrow that they are removing the Playstation from there line-up. Microsoft would have nothing left to accomplish and the X-Box would become worse than the Wii.

its not really that much as its less than £1 a week but if you want to be cheep you can make a new profile and have a new month free 3 times per xbox, so you can have two more months free

After 2 years my 360 suffered the old red rings of death. Microsoft extended the warranty to 3 years to cover the repair, then when they realised it would take 'a few weeks' to get it back to me they sent a brand new 360 and a month's free xbox live. Evil bastards.

that's why they also decided to put ads into the dashboard as well

i really don't believe that reasoning in the least. Sony can do it without charging for online
