Hey fellow Escapee's I am the man with the horrendous name o0pwnman0o. I'm making this review for two reasons. 1: to spread the word about Minecraft and 2: To give reviewing a game one more try due to my....previous failure. Welp let's get this train wreck moving.
Part 1 What is Minecraft?
Minecraft is an indie game currently in development by Markus Perrson also know as Notch. It's only in Alpha right now and is 50% off until beta releases what is believed to be coming out in a month or so. Also if you try it out look up the survival verison on the site. The classic verison is just building. I'll link that at the end.
But I uhh....Kinda wanted to know about the actual GAME part...
Oh yeah sorry about that. Minecraft is at it's most basic a game about survival and thriving. It has no real story but is made up for in it's addicting gameplay. The graphics are...Terrible. They are horrendous but it atleast doesn't hurt your eyes to look at like those goddamn 3D movies when I forget my glasses. The gameplay goes like this. Start off in a world with no tools or materials. Look for a home and gather dirt and materials to make tools and a new home. Sound simple? Well then there's the mobs. The mobs are basically monsters that spawn in the dark and will do whatever it costs to kill you. While trying to survive you'll eventually need new tools and over time start looking for new minerals underground to make tools and items needed for you to thrive in this world. At first you start simple and make a small home by hollowing out a small home in the dirt and blocking yourself in. If your like my friend you START like this and after 5 hours of gameplay have made a pantheon of DIAMONDS. As was said before this is about surviving AND thriving.
Part 2 So what makes this indie game innovative and special?
Well aside from crafting and creating while surviving against those exploding zombie...things you will eventually notice the world hasn't stopped yet. This is because the world you are in is completely generated for you. It's new everytime ( Though you will get a giant mainland with mountains everywhere a bit more then you'd like ) The world you are in expands over time to at maximum the surface area of earth...Times 8. Yes it is gigantic. The worlds range from snowy mountains to tiny islands spread everywhere with no mainland in sight. This is what makes the game truly interesting. Adapting to all of the new worlds and making your mark in them. I remember I once played in a mountain filled world and found coal ( One of the many minerals ) Everywhere and then on an island one and found not a single thing of coal. It makes it interesting seeing how things turn out. But now onto the meat of the game
Part 3 Multiplayer
Multiplayer...It is amazing. It's currently Ip connect only but that shouldn't be hard to get passed on the forums. Currently Pvp and mobs aren't implemented into online yet but I guarantee the day me and another player bond close enough to make our own town to defend against mobs while simultaneously dealing with the other players on the loose it will be glorious. I'll givw you an example of something like this already made. Me and my friend who is also on these forums named " Fjeld " Have an invite only server we go on. In it there are 4 clans of players who all have their own territory. Alliances were made and bases built from the ground up. Trading is implemented and a national trade center has been made. New ideas came into the minds of players and they had the power to fulfill the needs of these ideas. Me and Fjeld are currently the head miners on it gathering materials so our clan can craft the tools and weapons it needs for when war breaks loose. It's kind of like how Eve online turned out in a way only 10 times less monotonous. It was fun cooperating with friends to create our clan and it was fun negotiating with the friendly and sometimes less then welcome other clans to make treaties, war, and trade with others. It made me feel like I could make something in this world and it would be useful and fulfilling. It made me happy when I managed to get a bargain with during a trade with diamonds for iron. Unfortunately I'm rambling and need to wrap this up.
Minecraft is a game that lets you have it your way. Weather in single player finding ways to survive and thrive or in multiplayer where dealing with others is half the fun.
I recommend you buy it if this interests you it's 50% off like I said earlier so it's only 12$ for the full game. It's worth it since the game's only in Alpha MANY more features are soon to come.
Tell me how I did in this review in the comments
Here's a link to that survival verison I was talking about it MAY be a little hard to get into without the wiki. No seriously use the wiki and maybe look up a quick guide.
