Of course minecraft was going to win, people treat it like digital crack..... It's still one of the biggest parts of YouTube.

Me? I prefer to play more of a game than lego, so terraria it is.

That being said I'm not a very creative person.

Both.

They can't really be compared in the "which one should I buy" sense. Its like asking a pal, "Which should I buy, Portal or Bioshock?" They can't really be compared gameplay-wise.
Terraria is more about combat and underground exploration, Minecraft is more about building and (shockingly) mining.

To me, it's like comparing legos to Metroid. Both are great, but it's more about what you want to do with your free time.

For the record, it's Metroid.

That's a tough one. I think Minecraft has been able to keep me playing longer, but Terraria definitely does thing that I like over Minecraft. Terraria's focus on equipment and bosses is a big edge, for sure. But the actual mining part of Terraria does grate on me after a while. The blocks are just so small, it sometimes feels like im making no progress trying to just connect two cave chambers. Even though i know mining isnt the the main focus, as opposed to Minecraft, its there, and you do a lot of it, and it's just not as satisfying as Minecraft.

So yah, Minecraft.

Minecraft for sure. Not sure how terraria handles the content updates but as far as Minecraft is the best of those. You get a game and it is updated constantly and accept community suggestions as well, they even employed several moders to advance the game.World is almost endless and have dedicated server/worlds whats more to ask.And comparing graphics i find more immersing the 3d unknown than 2d most seen.As far innovations go Minecraft got the lead by far since terraria was late by 1 year at least. Also in minecraft there is the grinding type of gaming you get the worth of your money and stick with something memorable

Minecraft has more of a freeform element to it. Terraria has more structure to it and seems to reward completing objectives more. I think it depends upon whether or not you prefer a more structured experience. Personally I prefer Minecraft, I like having a literal totally open world at my fingertips.

Minecraft, if only for mod support. I seriously love Terraria, but I've just started a Feed the Beast server, and the only thing that convinces me to log off and sleep is not wanting to farm for tin when I run out...

Now, if the devs of Terraria added mod support, this would be a whole new ball game...

Minecraft wins out for me, that third dimension and first person perspective actually adds a surprising amount to the atmosphere and the way the game is played.

While i enjoy both, i have to side with Minecraft. Ive played it since before doors were added, and i havent stopped playing it since. And while i did play terraria for a long amount of time, and collect every piece of gear, and explore every nook and cranny on my favorite world.

Minecraft is still addicting. I still play it regularly. I havent touched Terraria in months because theres not much to go back too. Without the 3rd dimension minecraft has, your buildings just arnt as.... deep. Once you have everything, and youve built a grand structure thrice over, it just kinda falls off. It was an amazing ride, but it had to end.

Minecraft is still being developed too. Were seeing newer, and better features nonstop. And even if its not as exciting, or addictive as terraria once was, it still draws me back. They are both amazing games, but Minecraft just lives on too me. Terraria was great, but Minecraft still is.

I personally never got into Terraria. My experience with the beginning was very slow. All I did was chug back and forth between my square house and the nearest cave gathering rocks. After about an hour, I was bored, so I stopped. I'm told it gets a lot more fun further on, but honestly, I couldn't be bothered to play that far.

Minecraft, on the other hand. That game had me sucked in like a million-dollar whore since day one. Sure, there's no structure. Sure, there's no goal. But that's the point, isn't it? I find it very peaceful to spend time in a world with limitless possibilities but no pressure to act on them unless I truly want to. Also, it's 3D, which I find to be a million times more immersive.

Bottom line: Terraria could be the God of all software, but I'll never notice. I'm too busy playing Minecraft.

I'm going to have to go with Terraria. I've always enjoyed the exploring factor more than the building, but it was actually quite enjoyable making myself a town next to my hobbit hole. And then I did make myself a miniature moria in the deep underground.
