I have a really bad computer. Like i mean its to be used for nothing more than internet browsing. I couldnt get Portal to load. Im wondering if 1. my computer is even able to play minecraft seeing as it is a game with obviously low graphics. and 2. what do you do and is it fun?

Mine craft is surprisingly undemanding of your system.

Go for it, and beware the impending addiction.

You see, I... HOLY SHIT! IRON! BRB!

You should check this thread that gives the minimum requirements:

Edit: ...also note that just because a game has `low graphics' doesn't mean it can't be computationally demanding (I mean, have you seen the size of the gameworlds?!).

This.
Also, the game might have "low" graphics, but it has alot of effects (eg. breaking a cube releases a shower of dirt and stone and some materials)
But, you can help your computer cope with the size of the gameworlds by decreasing the range at which fog is dispelled.

I've heard good things about it, but I've only played the free browser version for a little while. Strangely it actually taxed my processor a bit. I have a Quad core and one of the cores was running quite high (75-85%). I guess it isn't designed to work well on multi-core PCs.

I could still play it no problem. I suggest checking out the minimum specs and playing the free version for a bit. I don't know if the Beta version runs differently though so it may not be a good indicator. As I said I haven't played it.

EDIT: Why not post your computer's specs so we can advise you better. We can't really ay if it will run or not without knowing what it is.

I can run it on a really old laptop on low graphics, try it for free, then commit the money I would say

That worked perfectly at first it was a little shakey but i turned the fog to low and now its 100% fine
