Hello there. I couldn't find a topic on this already here (sorry if there is one that I missed) and I thought I'd get it started.
Last night I downloaded the demo for Mirror's Edge of off Xbox Live, I had no particular interest before and I was blown away by the demo.
Yeah I know First Person isn't new but the way this game does it is just so much more immersive than games I've played before. Its controls are simple enough and allow you to jump from building to building and take on 'The Blues' easily enough. Although it takes some time to get the hang of it, you will be misjudging levels for a while.
Which brings me back to the realism. When you misjudge a ledge in a game you are obviously a little annoyed as you plummet to either a survivable height or fall to your death. In the demo its the latter of these, but the first person perspective of you jumping reaching out for the ledge, missing and hurtling downwards the wind sounding around you and then the crunch and thump of the pavement below is unsettling. At least it was for me. I thought of this not only as added realism but a way to make you want to perfect your gameplay and make sure you don't die.
Combat seems interesting but you don't get much of an opportunity to test it out in the demo. Although I do think the way you grapple and disarm enemies can be a bit irritating. Otherwise it was fun enough, jumping kicks are cool, especially when your kicking a dude off of the building XD
Anyway, I'm quite looking forward to the game now. So what did you think of the demo? Vote up above and comment what you think of the game/concept in general. Also comments on the review would be appreciated =) But just so you know it is a rushed 'review' and based off a demo. Cheers for reading etc.
